Hi All,

The wife was going through some old boxes in the attic the other day and found a Capital Radio share certificate that was issued to her in the late '80s.

I've had a Google and far as I can fathom out Capital Radio have had multiple mergers and buyouts in the last 40 years. Can anyone give me some pointers to how I find out if the shares would still be valid?

Thanks

They merged with something else about 15 years ago to become GCap but that delisted under a takeover about ten years ago by a private company.

The most likely thing that happened was that on the merger you received a new cert in the new company and sold those shares and have forgotten the link to Capital Radio or when GCap were bought you were sent a cheque and have forgotten.

But to make absolutely sure then google who the registrars were of GCap, contact them and ask about your records.

I’m very rusty on corporate actions but I don’t think the Registrar would be holding any funds for you. I think that as you were holding the physical feet in your name and your address that they would have written regarding the takeover and worked on the assumption that if ignored they would just send you a cheque and be done.

That certainly used to happen.

Now if you accept a takeover, but then try to retain the (soon to be obsolete) certificate, the registrar will not send their cheque until they do receive the certificate, or indemnity.

You need to speak to the registrar who acted for them. Probably Lloyd’s causeway.

Thanks. It’s 25 years since I worked in the nominee dept, yet it’s almost surprising it has modernised biggrin
