Might struggle to get an S2000 for that these days, MR2 Turbos are very old and can be pretty ropey by now, a good one thats been well looked after might be worth looking at but they do rust.

MX5, depends how much power you want, good fun and 5 grand gets you a MK3.

350Z is a good option at that money, robust, quickish, makes a nice noise but they are thirsty.

350z is a good suggestion, also considering Boxster S.

Rx8 R3 is ridiculous fun and just touches the top of that price range.

Boxster is a riskier choice but a more rewarding car to drive, do your homework on them to avoid agro, 350Z isnt without the odd issue but its a very tough engine in comparison to the Boxster.

In today's market unless you are a very competent diyer you do not want a 5k s2000. 18 months ago it was perfectly doable to get an ok one for 5 grand but sadly that boat has sailed. I say this through gritted teeth as I very narrowly missed a lovely one for 6k that would sell today for more than 10k easily. Bugger.

If I was in you position I would go for a nice high spec mk 1 or 2 mx5 and either a super charger or a turbo conversion.

If you wait a few months you might well pick up a soft top bargain - they are always cheaper in the Winter.

I might look for a 3 litre Z3, they are appreciating now, so you might have to wait till Winter to get one for your budget.
