Saw Tim today to pick up some new shiny pipes and saw the very first Carbon Airbox layed up in the mould ready to go out to the oven !! Looks excellent. He has reshaped the exit piece to smooth it out and also reshped to oval to make it easier to get in and out. The new K&N panel filters look superb quality and really look like they will improve possible airflow .. Can't wait until next week, radiator is out anyway so will be easy to fit ...

hi Johno,

How is the engine coming along?

I'm in a similar situation: my Griff is at Austec's and the bores and pistons are worn out (you wonder how that can happen). Apart from new liners and pistons I have the option of going to a 5.2 or even a 5.5.(!)

What did you do?

V8 Dev rebuilt mine to 5ltrs ...as it's an SE I wanted to keep it standard.

Mine had new top end, new top hat liners, new shells & bearings, new rings etc etc .. fully balanced.

It went up to Middlesex rolling road last month and they reckoned it was the best they'd seen ... couldn't keep it on the rollers !!

If I change anything now it will be the induction side of things later this year ..

Sorry to hear of your woes, but at least now you know what is wrong and get it sorted.

I really do wonder how these engines can wear so quickly. I had mine rebuilt at 92K as the heads were knackered and took the safe route of getting the whole lot, bottom end, completely striped at the same time. Apart from a rehone and re sheel of the bearings it was in very good condition. Oh rocker gear worn too but that was replaced with steel along with better heads.
As to why some wear quickly and some not I have a pet theory that mine was a fully balanced engine from new. Not the usual later engine TVR balancing that compensates for everything on the crank pulley . I also think that is why some cranks have been know to snap too.
Just a theory mind.

Thats good news Johno, have you noticed the difference in the smoothness in power delivery that the balancing seems to give, or is it my imagination.
Top boys at V8D me thinks .

V8 Dev will do my engine too. Think it will be balanced. The head, valves, etc are o.k. it's (just) the bottem end. Will have it ready in time for Zolder.
5.2 seems like a nice option. 5.5 even better but probably too expensive.
