Why has this word suddenly become used in the news so much? If someone says something about someone else the headline always says SLAMMED. An example would be “Ivanka Trump slammed for tweet about video game tournament shooting”.

I don’t understand why it is used so much when no one in real life ever says it?

Other words like Insane and Brutal have become overused, and generally incorrectly.

That and the tv news favourites of “calls” and “fears” making something somebody says allegedly newsworthy.

I know about slamming doors, but how do you slam a person?

And how do you leak cables? Pipes leak. Cables short.

Makes a change from "savaged".

"Commons Select Committee savages witness" gives me the image of them setting about them like a pack of dogs.

It's a bit like the carnage that is happening more and more often at our airports when luggage gets delayed, sometimes by up to half an hour. FFS

SLAMMED, probably used by the same kind of trendy moron who uses the word smashed to describing something that has been done well and says 'owned the room' and 'reach out'.

I usually picture a wrestling slam. Would definitely make politics more interesting if Boris was really slamming Juncker hehe

Perfect indication that the publication in question isn't worth the paper it's written on. smile

Exactly. As used by people trying to justify their existence since time immemorial.

You're clearly angling for someone to use the tired old "dominate the stairs" meme and turn this into the usual trotting out of tedious in-jokes.
