I’m going round the houses and it’s driving me mad.

Moved to the country - family of 2 (4 and 6). Have a V70 Mk3 R-design 202bhp and that’s pretty good although considering changing for a XC70 or XC60 next year once I see how the roads are (East Lothian).

Need a second car and these are my requirements:
- school drops
- limited weekend use
- short journeys
- < 30 miles a week total
- don’t need big boot
- 4WD would be nice
- MPG is not something I care about
- high tax is something I want to keep to nothing >£315
- good engine reliability
- no leasing
- Budget £5-6max
- lowish serviceable maintenance
- sport hatch-ish

^ all this to me adds up to a low tax band R32 smile but they’re just out of budget frown

A selection of what else I’ve considered.

- 2007 VW Polo 1.8 Gti 5dr
- VW transporter T5 builders van 1.9
- Seat Leon FR 2010 FSI engine (Could do but don’t come up that often)
- A3 1.8T and 3.2 5dr (had a 2TQ)
- Subaru Forester 2.5XT (too big)
- Focus ST (not really a Ford fan)
- BMW 1-Series (could be ok but prefer F/AWD)
- Have avoided Mk6 Gti, TSFI engines
- MPS - too expensive

Or should I just forget my dreams of owning something decent considering my budget and just think practicality.

What have I not considered? Thanks in advance.

Thanks @ZX10R NIN for pulling out these options.

I think I'd get frustrated with a 3 door so ideally 5 door.

I'm now looking at Subaru Forester's - 2.0XT but...... I'm still going round in circles.
