The clutch etc is travelling in the same direction and doing exactly the same job when in either forwards or reverse so the problem has to be somewhere further back.
My guess would be diff or CV joint related. Does the noise/issue change if you are reversing with left or right steering lock?

No backing straight into the garage it is just a tad difficult to stop it stalling and can't get smooth take up with a lot of mechanical noise from clutch gearbox or possibly diff?
Initially turning right to get into garage so I'll check to see if it does it turning left but haven't noticed that so far.
Fine going forwards but as normal, quite heavy in traffic. This only happens when hot.
If backing up when cold there isn't an issue.
Weird

The clutches do tend to be heavy....but very heavy in traffic when hot reminds me of a friend's 450 last year.
He took the car down to another owner's house to have a look up on the ramp, and they found that the clutch fingers were so badly worn they were about to break off. Possibly a stuck release bearing if I am remembering correctly.
Long story short, we left his car there and ordered a new 500 clutch kit from TVR Parts (7.5% discount for being a Tufty Club member).
Clutch kit fitted by mechanic son of ramp owner, friend couldn't stop raving about how light and lovely the new clutch was.
So it might be worth getting yours inspected - up on a ramp you can look at it through the inspection hole and see if there is any problem.
