Mrs BC have a number of trips planned through the forthcoming autumn & winter. One in particular is a cruise to the Antarctic including business class flights, total cost c£28,000. I have an annual travel policy with a cancellation limit of £5k per person.

Can anybody recommend a company offering a higher level of cover?

I had the same challenge (and coincidentally was going on a trip to Antarctica too).

Staysure let me add cancellation cover up to a total of £15K per person so that would work out well for you.

Thanks, how did you do that? Here’s my online quote at £5000.

I couldn't do it online.

I had a read through their policy document online. It mentioned that they could, in certain circumstances, increase the level of cover.

I called them and explained what I was looking for.

The call centre person had to refer it to their underwriting department.

I got a call back a day or so later with a price and took the cover.

They were the only mainstream company I could find who offered that level of cover.

I suppose a specialist broker could obtain cover but I've used Staysure for years so stuck with them.

The worst, I am going on a near £30k holiday yet.
A follow on from last weeks post about the £22,000 paid to your SIPP provider in charges for the year.

You certainly like to tell everyone what you have.

Sounds to me like someone looking for advice for a specific set of circumstances that haven’t arisen before for them like the holiday of a lifetime.

The flights alone would likely exceed his cancellation limit, doesn’t seem unreasonable to ask the question about how others may have mitigated similar risks and the cost of the holiday is vital info.

That sums up the situation quite nicely. Mrs BC and I take a lot of holidays but usually the £5k each cancellation limit is sufficient. This time it isn’t.

The typical £5K per person must be at best marginal for a lot of trips these days. You'd be nudging that on reasonable DisneyWorld trip and it's not unusual to read of couples spending high-teens by flying Virgin Upper and staying in one of the deluxe Disney resorts.

There must be appropriate cover to go with the expensive cruises too - the guy who owns our village garage did a big P&O one that he said cost over £30K.

Fair enough, but could word his posts slightly better, maybe I am being too critical after reading his “ I have got this size of pension pot” and I pay this much in charges each year
Just think that there is no requirement to put actual values on these type of questions and still get the answers you are looking for.

Haha, absolutely no chip here, just think there is no requirement to mention specific figures on such questions, like this one and your pension one.

In both cases some figures were essential to get the right answers though I didn’t include the size of my pension pot in that thread.

I don’t see much point in anybody ‘willy waving’ on PH as most of us remain anonymous. I like it that way.

OK, point taken.
