Putting your P and J into storage
Discussion
OK Folks I am wondering if anyone has put there car into storage and can recommend a company based on personal experience.
I may well have to work abroad for a couple of years and I want to explore the options. I am personally after a company that would actually take my car out and drive it to keep it going etc.
Thoughts....
Its not definate yet so for those that have met me, dont be too glum just yet!
2 years on a virtually new car? You'll lose at least 12k off the value plus the costs of storage.... I know how much you love it Simon but if I was you I would be planning to sell and get a new dream motor when I come back.
Something else to consider is whether two years means two years. This Kiwi came to the UK for 18 months..... 4 years ago!

Cant you ship it across to the states for a year? Then make the decision to keep, store or sell.
IIRC you can import a car, any car, for 12 months. Subaru brought in their 22B demo cars that way a couple of years ago and I believe the same regs are still in force.
Could be worth a thought, as although its going to cost a few K to transport it across, defray that against hire car costs (or purchase costs) while your out there and it doesnt look too bad.

I know, I even started to ask my dealer about how I could offer a package holiday to a service technician if necessary. Certainly its a thought! Wonder how many miles I would clock up!!
The car will be losing money while in storage (which will also cost you money) - and you won't even have the use of it.
Unless you're loaded or the car has extreme sentimental value, I'd sell it and upon your return buy another one. Its by far the cheapest option, and with the money you save you could actually buy a nicer, newer model.

Thanks for the advice and offers, i know shipping it here (Us) would be an option, its just the hassle of servicing it that would frustrate me!
Still holding out if anyone has ever used a storage company and wants to give me a name! I still need to store it for 2 months later this year!
