Asking for a "friend", if they wanted to be able to reliably out run a police helicopter on an empty motorway (late at night) what's the best car to do that?

A bit of googling suggests VNE for a Eurocopter 135 is around 155 kn or 178 mph, and they have a best range of around 400 miles, but that's at cruise speed / altitude, so they'll be much more limited at lower level and at VNE (and of course, effective operational radius would be half the range if they want to get back to their base.

So, "they" needs something that can get into the 200's easily, and probably be fitted with bigger fuel tanks, i've suggested a 720s, but maybe there's a better car for the job???

"his" concern with the Chiron is both the limited availability (easy to trace) of that vehicle and the fact it is rare and rather obvious, whereas there are plenty of macas around these days.

Clear road will be easy to arrange thanks to the proliferation of "smart" motorways and cheap overseas hackers.....

Anything that'll do 401 miles to a tank.

S65 AMG Brabus without the body upgrades?

Boba Tuning Volkswagen Golf? 650bhp/litre should do you just fine...not to mention 1100bhp/tonne, 64psi of boost, top speed of 230mph, 4 wheel drive...in a MK2 boggo shell.

In gear times

0-100kmh 2,4s
100-200kmh 2,9s
200-250 1,9s
200-280 3,4s

1/4 mile time 8,67s @ 281kmh (175mph)

Exactly, there's no need to go fast, just drive past an airport. smile

Just buy several of the same car, any car will do...

Once the fuzzcopter is on you, drive to the nearest long tunnel where the rest of the identical cars will be waiting...

All drive out the other end of the tunnel in succession...

Profit!

Eta - bonus point if it's a tunnel under a runway.

Surely an Audi RS6. Lamborghini engine and plenty of room for extra fuel tanks in the back.

Maybe they should buy a generic hatchback and spend the money on a black market surface-to-air man-portable instead.

Simple the car that can get you to something like this:

Then the helicopter is no longer an issue but you have to be a half decent rider.

Reading this question reminded me of this classic PH thread about the 996 Turbo that had been modified for similar requirements across Europe and Africa.

It might be worth a conversation with poppopbangbang if he's still around Max as he might be able to share some hypotheticals!

Original thread for anyone interested as its worth a read;

This was meant to be a slightly (ok, massively) tongue in cheek and fun "what car" thread in GenGassing, but mods i think took the title a bit seriously and moved it here, which whilst now accurately filed, has rather killed the thread imo........

If the helicopter has fuel then it will still keep up. Unless you have a 200 mile very straight very quiet road.

It has to be motorway & then you keep moving the helicopter has to go lower to keep you in sight there was a drug courier who outran the helicopter along the M4 corridor using GSX-R's on a few occasions he finally got caught whilst on a scrambler in bristol.

I'd get a silver diesel Golf. They have a big range and there's millions of them so they'd never tell which one was your "mate"
