M5 F10 Oil Usage
Discussion
HI All
I've a 2013, BMW M5 with 48,000 miles on clock. I've had the car since March, where it used to use around 1ltr of oil every 1,500 miles. It was serviced end of June, oil, plugs etc and since then it's not used a drop.......Well, the computer says it's still full and has not moved from max since, although I've covered 3,000 miles.
My fear is due to no dip stick (which I think is a mistake) there could be a fault with the oil level gauge. I have it booked in for a check next week, but has anyone else has this issue?
I don't want the engine to go bang and they turn around and say, sorry - it had no oil in..!!!!!
Thanks
Rob

You can check the oil level in mm using ISTA/rheingold, then monitor as it drops.
Not sure what you think the dealer will do beyond charge you 100 quid to tell you the computer says it thinks everything is OK.
Thanks - it's under warranty so hopefully they won't charge me. What is a ISTA/rheingold ??Not sure what you think the dealer will do beyond charge you 100 quid to tell you the computer says it thinks everything is OK.
Hi mate
Mine uses around a litre every 3/5k miles
However, i have noticed that in my ownership that the nearer it gets to needing a service the more it uses. I too used about a litre per 1500miles before my recent oil change. I think its normal as the oil is degrading over time for it to use a tad more when its been in for a while
Mines also a 2013. I wouldnt worry too much, but you can check it yourself in the Idrive, when the car is on a level ground as is up to temp, i often check it myself after driving home from work, takes about 30seconds.
Cheers
Danny

Mine is a LCI car but does exactly the same with almost no use after a service for a while and then over time starts to use it.Mine uses around a litre every 3/5k miles
