Hello,
I recently got an email from HMRC stating that there had been changes to my income tax estimate. I also noticed at the same time that I have a ‘T’ tax code. Tax YTD (ie since April) my effective tax rate on monthly payslips has been in the mid 40’s versus ‘listentotaxman’ predictions of high 30’s, although to be honest it has been all over the place.
What is the process for these codes to get reviewed - will it happen during this tax year or do I have to wait until my SA to get any overpayments back? Is there anything I can get my employer to do or do we have to wait for HMRC?
Cheers.

It's a bit hit and miss (not all staff are that great), but I would call them and get your tax code fixed for the year. I've had similar to you, but mine had changed every month since April and by July I'd had enough (I'm on a variable income, and my payroll dept. never caught up with each change in time).
They asked me a few questions, specifically my expected annual income and a few other bits, then we agreed on a fixed code for the year.
I say a bit hit and miss as they've just changed my code again, once again my payroll dept. was late in applying the new code and so I was out of date

Ring HMRC and talk it through with them, ask them to explain what's happened. The amount of cock ups there are unbelievable.
I recently got a coding adding £11k of extra income and obliterating my tax code, for no reason! When I rang them up it turned out the 'computer' had added my company car back on (I lost that in May) again for no reason! They apologised, changed it back and informed my company via the online system they use for payroll.
