New Hood Topic
Discussion
Hi all....there's been a fair bit of talk on two seperate Forum topics about soft tops for our Jeeps recently. I've raised it as a new topic as it's important for fellow member Jon to get his hood sorted, and may well be useful for me if er indoors refuses to go topless.
I gather from Swizz's posting Bellfield are doing Hoods???? If anyone has an old hood as a spare, could we not use it as a pattern to get a new one made? Of course there's usually the ads section in Transmissions to keep an eye on....
Cheers everyone
Gerry
Hi Gerry,
yes, new hoods are available from Belfields.
And, yes new hoods could be made from a pattern. I don't think it would be in the clubs interest though to start competing with Belfield!
They are the nearest thing we have to getting new Jago's on the road if the chance ever arises so their revenue on parts & accessories counts.
What the Belfield hoods have in their favour is that they are the genuine article and of a high quality. Price wise they aren't bad value either compared to other kit manufacturers hoods & when you consider how much material goes into them.
However, should anyone buy an old hood then yes by all means use it as a pattern for a new one. If i'd have had the old one for mine I probably would have done that myself. And, if you have any ideas for personalising the hood in anyway to suit your vehicle then that is the way to go.
We are hoping to have a trimmers listed in the next Transmissions offering a discount. Boat chandlers are another option - most light watercraft have hoods of some description.

I have trawled the ads section - waiting for one guy to decide if he wants to sell his hood afterall. At the moment it is fingers crossed until he gets back to me.
When I do find a hood, or make one, I shall be selling off one hardtop (late stepped type) and doors - watch this space <grin>
