What would be the point of running a print advert where nobody could call you because the number didn't work?

I don't get it either. It's not the magazine running dummy ads to make it look like a good place to advertise, is it? Why would anybody spend money on an ad knowing they can't be contacted? They can't be doing it to scam you of money if you can't ring them.

Either a cock-up or the magazine padding the classifieds to make them look more vibrant.

They all say 'please call' etc. Coincidence?

Some magazines etc use 'privacy' numbers, although earlier comment probably negates that possibility. Do the numbers actually work, if not it must be padding out the classifieds.
