Gutting find - sharp dent and missing paint.
Discussion
Just had clean mot, 4 new tyres, got her all spic and span. Came out of the shops to find this. It’s a small, but fierce dent on the buttress. Paint is chipped off. There’s also paint that’s chipped off 6 inches below. I’ve checked the cameras on the car and couldn’t find when it happened.
Went to a body shop I know. The said it’s an unusual place for vandalism as someone would more likely go o to the wing, and it’s been hit with some force, like a brick. They said they can perhaps pull the dent out but the quarter panel will need spraying. The dent is near the corner and not only has left a triangular type dent but also pushed the line out on the adjacent face. The other issue, having had spraying done is knowing that speed yellow is impossible to get close and I run the risk of it looking obvious.
I’m going to see a mate who’s a detailer to ask if once the dent is pulled out if he can touch it in and polish. It’ll still show, but maybe a stone chip type repair won’t look as bad as a sprayed panel? I don’t know. I’m frigging gutted to know it’ll most likely never look the same.
Help meh!

I have near identical damage on my front wing from mowing over a piece of gravel. I was cross with myself for a while...
So I'll go with essentially, a large stone chip . Probably flicked up off the road as a car passed. Thank the people with gravel driveways who never sweep up the pavement...

I had a minor dent, prob 1/4 the size pulled out by Dent Techniq in Leicester. They glue a plastic tab to the body and use a sliding hammer with quite some force to pull it. Then use a nylon punch and hammer to tap back any proud bits.
Cost me £80 to rectify 3 blemishes in the same panel.
If you consider they return hail damaged cars back to near perfect this should be doable.

Thanks folks. I’m going for the less is more approach to start with. My friend runs a detailing firm and he’s going to have the chap come in the does dents to try and fix that bit if he can access the rear, then do a local touch up and polish back. It’ll still show but I’m hoping it’s such that only when you look close, I could live with that. If still no good then I’ll have to consider the spraying, but’ll as mentioned I’m doing everything to avoid that.

Yeah. Good plan. It's less invasive and once the dent is gone, a good touch up and flat & polish and you'll hardly see it.
Well, you'll see it. That's just how we are . But nobody else will. I'm sure
Update the thread when it's done please OP

A brilliant method of repair if the paint is not damaged, unfortunately for this owner a glue pull repair will most likely result in further paint damage as the paint surface is broken.Cost me £80 to rectify 3 blemishes in the same panel.

This is gutting when it happens and I hope you manage to find a solution soon. It is possible to train yourself to put up with such scars however. The day I brought my 997.2tt home from the dealership a school friend of my son tried to take a closer look. He promptly bashed my passenger door with his school bag and left a one-inch scrape in the paintwork. The car is GT silver and nigh on impossible to achieve a perfect match when respraying. I got a quote from M&A Coachworks at one point who said it would cost approximately £1500 to put right. I’ve decided to leave it and accept it as an inevitable battle scar. And I’m usually a detailing obsessive.

Ah no. I bet you had to quietly take yourself off and mouth a few choice words into a nearby bush. I know I did. Chubbyross said:
Indeed! It wouldn't have looked good punching an 8-year-old girl in the middle of an afternoon. The law frowns upon such behaviour. I tend to half close my eyes now whenever I look at that side of the car. It definitely helps!
If you've been a parent for 8 years you should surely know better! You shouldn't even contemplate punching an 8 year old!!!!!!Discrete push or conveniently timed "accidental" trip is the way to go. Followed by a congratulatory Dick Dastardly chuckle under your breadth

I feel your pain guys.
My 6GC was un-dented after 4+ years and 20k miles. Judicious parking, or as my wife likes to call it "stupid parking far away from the shops", had surely helped. A week after I put it up for sale I went to the supermarket, kids crying, wife telling me to just park and against my better judgement I parked next to a beaten up MPV. Returned to find a 1" dent parallel to the swage line
The ****** must have really let that door fly to manage that.
In the end I got a decent trade from Sytner and they weren't too bothered about the dent. But I grimaced every time I got into the car and saw it
