Buying a 2008 A6 with the Colour Sat Nav, MMi High (2g I believe), has the DVD drive for nav and the cd drive in the glove box. Is there any easy way to get Spotify or other music/podcasts streaming from my phone and the correct track information on the units display? Thanks in advance for any help.

Not sure this really helps you, but I know for a fact that you can get an iPhone or iPod to integrate via a wired connection with the MMI (2G High) so that you can see track lists and use car controls to select tracks, FFWD etc on the track, because I've done it on 2 C6 Audis (A6 shape from 2006 onwards). One was a 2007 the other a 2008.

The unit you use for that is called an "Audi Music Interface" (AMI) and sits next to the cd changer in the glove box. It's a pretty easy retrofit and from memory doesn't even need coding.

Here's one on eBay, but I'm sure you can get it cheaper than that if you look around.

I'm not sure if it works with streaming though, I think it just reads the harddrive on the MP3 player or iPod/iPhone.

Have a read around and see what the AMI can do.

Thanks for the reply, I read up about some if the AMI options but I thought it might have to be a particular version of it for the A6, all my searches came up with a slightly different part number, do you know if they are interchangeable and the one listed on ebay is right? http://www.realoem.me/search/tvn/4E0057785F that is the one that I thought I needed and seems to be quite a bit more expensive, I am very lost though in this!

The one you linked will definitely work, I suspect the one I linked will work too, but best to go with the correct part number for your vehicle.

Make sure you get the correct cables for it too - you need a fibre optic piggy back, a power piggy back and the correct cable from the AMI to your music player.

You must be careful here, there are two versions of the AMI unit.

You need the one from the A8, A6 or Q7 using MMI - the MOST fibreoptic loop version. The last letter of the part number is the part revision number, in general higher it is, newer the unit is.

The A4 and RNS-E setup uses CANBUS, and it's not interchangeable.

eg, This one is correct - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AUDI-A6-4F-A8-4E-MMI-Hi...

Note how the label says "AMI MOST".

You DO NOT WANT the one that says "AMI CAN".

Also see https://a6retrofits.com/ami-retrofit-audi-music-in... for info.

You may want to also consider the Dension Gateway units.

This is what I'd do; readily available and work well in my experience.

AMI works fine for Apple Music on our A6. We also have a C6 but it is the facelift, which includes the MMI 3G High system (with the map joystick on MMI controller). I believe there is different cables for the different MMI systems, all are rather expensive for a small thing, but I guess it is all results in a neat system with little in the way. Tracks do come up on the DIS, and can be controlled as well from the steering wheel, it is quite a nice system when it all works together.

The cable does intermittently cut out sometimes, it can be annoying, some days it is fine some days it isn't. Maybe there is a loose connection somewhere.
Saying this, it seemed to work well today, touch wood.

If the car has it, it will be a port in the 'ceiling' of the glovebox.

If you do make sure it's installed correctly.

They can do audio over Bluetooth, but if the car has audi Bluetooth module then the Audi one will need to be removed as they interfere with each other. Which stops the infotainment shutting down and drain your battery.
