Hi guys,

I test drove a 2011 RS5 today and I'm decided that one of these is going to be my next car.

This car had MMI with nav and a nice high resolution screen.

Reading about the MMI systems has utterly confused me about what I should be looking for.

2g, 3g, 3g plus, high, low, etc. etc.

So, on the b8 (pre-facelift) rs5 what possible systems can exist? And what would I need to look for to make sure the one I choose has the high resolution screen?

I think...

- non-mmi (chorus, concert, symphony) has controls on the dash, not what I want
- 2g was discontinued before the rs5 came out?
- 3g+ became available on the b8.5 facelift?
- 3g without nav has no joystick?
- 3g with nav has joystick?

So...

Any car with MMI will be the 3g version? but, do they all use the same high resolution screen? Are there high/low versions? If so, what's the difference? How would I tell?

Thanks!

I had a 2010 but couldn’t for the life of me tell you what version it had or what you should look for.

Try RS246 or A5OC they’ll know the answer

I’m fairly sure the rs5 came with the top sat nav as standard, so will be 3G high.

3G plus was introduced on the facelift

You could have:

Infotainment: Radio/CD with MMI controls on the dash
DVD navigation (part of technology package low): DVD based system, maps on a disc, MMI controls on centre console.
HDD navigation with MMI 3G (part of technology package high): HDD based system, fancier screen, hard drive jukebox etc, MMI controls on centre console with little joystick in the middle of the control wheel.

The little joystick in the middle of the control wheel on the centre console is the easiest way to tell at a glance.

If you'd like a period brochure for reference send me a message and I'll bounce one back.

Thank you that's great, if the joystick is the giveaway I'll look for one with that clap

Very likely 3G High. 3G Plus I think has Audi connect with google maps for the sat nav, bit faster etc.

A secondary question if I may...

Does the standard exhaust have a vacuum operated flap to increase/decrease the noise or is this just on the sports exhaust optional extra?
