Hi

Where do people get their tyres from? Do you use an OPC, just been quoted £326.06 for a Pirelli P Zero N1 265/35R20, looked on line deffo cheaper but what about the TPM thing should I trust the like of KwikFit etc? not putting KwikFit down by the way.

TIA

Cheers

I used an indi tyre centre near me that sold premium brands as well as budget. Had 4 Michelin PS2s, rears were 265/40/18s. Came to £750 including getting the tracking sorted (it was off and had knackered the fronts). Quite a large place out in the countryside of Northern Ireland with some good reviews (you never know whose wrote them though to be fair). They also did commercial vehicles like HGVS and a lot of farm vehicles for the local community. I asked them to torque the bolts back to spec. I’ve painted black alloys and they were absolutely fine afterwards. Do a review check of tyre places.

Check BlackCircles.com and Protyre. Both have been good for me. Protyre also replaced a TPMS sensor for £90 which worked immediately, you can probs buy them online cheaper if you need all 4.

As already advised, check the reviews on google etc before you buy - look for customer photos for the kind of cars they're used to dealing with.

Also - find a wheel alignment specialist if you want it done perfectly, I've always found kwikfit, F1 auto centres etc don't do a great job, having said that I've had a car back from an OPC that veered all over the place after a bad alignment. Specialists are the way to go IMO.

Also - if you're happy to buy the tyres, then find someone to fit, Camskill are very reasonable.

I use CostCo and found they provide a much higher quality service than the usual high street tyre changing outfits. They often do multi-buy deals on Michelins too.

Try asking the OPC to price match. I’ve always found them willing to match or gets as close as makes no real difference.

+1

When they have offers on their prices can be ridiculously good and the guy at my local branch looks after the car so much better than the OPC (who scraped my partners alloys while fitting new tyres). He even took pics of all the rims before they began so the condition could be verified.

Oh and ditch the Pirellis and put on some decent tyres. Michelin is a good start thumbup

In general their customer service is excellent. If the worst happened I'd be amazed if they didn't make good.

I recently replaced a tyre at a Pirellli Performance Centre garage near me (it was Merityre if that helps). They removed and refitted the wheel by hand and there was nothing that touched my matt black spyders throughout the process. A very positive experience.

Just put in an order to Camskill for some PS4S's to replace the POS P-Zeros my new car came on.

Is ridiculous Porsche forces buyers to bin four new tyres on a new car because they're so ste.

Exactly. The P-Zero N0s that came on my other half's 911 were so bad in the wet it was frightening. Felt like driving on space savers. I was always skeptical of the N rating system, but that Porsche deemed those tyres fit for purpose absolutely confirms that N rating is an absolute joke, I'd love to read their criteria for N rating sign off!

What’s the consensus on here if someone was putting a new set of boots on a 991.1 C2 who never goes near a track, just wants a long lasting road tyre. Goodyear, Pirelli or Michelin? Goodyear was original, stick to those?

I bought my last two 265 35 20 Goodyear F1 Porsche "N" marked rears for my 981 from Oponeo end of July...

Price delivered to my tyre retailer for fitting at £15 a tyre. They couldn't get anywhere near the same price and said to buy them!

I was tempted by the PS4S which have come down in price, but I've had GY F1s for the last 4 years and only needed two rears.
They've always been faultless. Rears lasted 24k miles.

If you need all four and can get "N" marked (if you need them for warranty) PS4S for near to the Goodyear price I'd consider them as there has been a lot of praise for them. Michelins also have a reputation for good wear.

Or... stick to what you know and trust?

Many thanks djmc and a great price. 24k miles on the rears that’s impressive! Was that going down to the 3mm Porsche recommendation or the 1.6mm legal?

They always look/feel worse than they are, and I didn't measure them, but I'd say around 2mm.

GY F1 fronts, also at 24k, are just over half worn. If all four wear out at the same time I may switch to PS4S next time if the price is comparable or if GY have stopped making "N" marked F1s by then.

Interesting info - thanks. As you say there is often always more life left in them than they look/service report tends to say....eg. 4mm is probably ‘almost at Porsche minimum standard!’

I'm curious how come of these cars are being driven to get the posted mileages out of tyres! laugh

Last set of tyres on my Cayman R lasted 7k miles. They weren't to the legal but as the car gets used in the wet now and then I like having at least 3mm of tread.
