Car still on MID but policy not renewed
Discussion
My policy lapsed Sep 4. I can see the broker has not taken money from my account (as inded they shouldn't, I called to say was changing brokers so let it lapse).
Just checked and car is still on the MID database as insured.
I am about to buy my new policy onlne, starting tomorrow but just want to be sure this will not cause issues? (The new insurer cancel as they will say no duplicate policies allowed?)
Hopefully just normal that they now take a while to remove your details, although as someome who changes insurers a lot, this is the first time in years - ever- I have seen this.
Any need to worry or do anything before buyng the new policy?

Thanks Roadsmash - man no, they were awful (the brokers) and never answer the phone nor seem to know what to do. Sick of them.
I just wanted out but even now it seems impossible!
On the basis that you have written confirmation (previous policy documents) that state the policy ended 4th Sept, and you are sure that they haven’t taken payment again (I presume you pay annually?), then I’m confident it has ended.I just wanted out but even now it seems impossible!
Perhaps the MID database has a small delay... but the fact is you’re not insured by them.
Agree, tend to think it is just a delay in updating the MID. There has been no payment made or taken so I'd hope and expect my new insurer will reasonable if, when they go to update, the details are still on there.
I will go ahead and buy as the car is not insured even if the MID says it is.
Thanks for help.

MID isn’t real time. IIRC there’s a service level from insurers that 98% of policies should be updated within 3 days of a change. You could easily be within the 2%, or even the 3 days as there’ll be a delay from the broker too.
It won’t cause you any issues if you insure it with the new company.
Arguably, there could be an issue with your 3-4 day break with no insurance around the car being taxed, but there won’t be one in practice.
