Hello I tried on the new Omega Seamaster 300M Black dial today. It was a lovely lovely watch. I think the blue dial will be even better. It did feel like a quality product. The wave dial looked great. The bracelet is flatter but very comfortable. In the grand scheme of things it looked great value for £3600.

Didn't realise the Diver 300m had gone up so much, I bought the outgoing model for £2600 brand new this year.

I prefer the date being at 3 o'clock rather than 6 o'clock on the previous model but would of liked the wave dial.

I have seen the “current” model advertised at a great price too. I believe the new model has a price increase due to new movements, ceramic bezel and dial.

Great watches. I have a minter dating from 2004. I have owned a couple before I got hold of this one.

£3600 is bonkers
I flinched when paying about £1500 for mine in early 2012.
More than doubled in price in 6 years?

I've got my name down for a black one with rubber strap. It's a bit steeper than I'd like, I'm thinking there might be a bit of movement but I'm not too fussed, I think they look great. Ceramic dial is interesting though, is there a reason/point to it?

Funny reading watch forums, the Submariner-uber-alles bores are losing their minds because Omega decided to update the styling of their watch.

And the Rolex -uber- alles bores aren't getting up tight about waiting lists let alone ad nauseum posts about minutae differences in the latest incarnation of whatever is flavour of the week?

I don't know how much watches were 5 years plus but I read comments that watch prices have increased a lot in the last few years. It is the same with cars for example a hot hatch like Civic Type R & Focus RS were £16-20K but now they are £30k cars. Ferrari F355, F360 were £100k now a Ferrari start at £200k. A Porsche 911 was a £60k car but now with a few options they are £100k.

I just think luxury items are getting very expensive.

Here's mine which is the outgoing model (not sure what year it was introduced) excuse how filthy it is.

I like the Sub & Sea Dweller. Why I didn’t buy one back then is the strap & clasp feel like they’re made of tin foil when compared to the 300m. Cheap & nasty,

I’ve been sniffing around a Sub again recently but I bought a Peleglos instead. Feels like a quality product.

It's been made much easier to buy stuff like this with cheap credit and low interest rates, and with cars these days it's all about leasing. I guess demand has gone up, so have prices.

Wages haven't though.

In 2009 a 911 C2S was 70k list or in todays money 90k which is just under the list price of a C2S today which is 87k, with a few options it was 78k which is 100k today.

When you factor in inflation they aren't more expensive but not all boats have risen on its tide, namely wages.

THREE THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED POUNDS? They were 2,9k pre refresh, weren't they?

Now this is a classic and I wish I bought one when they were still around brand new. They go for 2k+ for good condition/mint ones nowadays, in 2016 they were a 1.5k watch.

A bit OT but this is basically a milder form of hyperinflation, despite what the statistics say. Even food has gone up like crazy. Not to mention housing. The demand has gone up not because people are richer in real terms (as you said wages haven't followed the actual inflation) but because of cheap money. So the scheme that was supposed to save an average person from disaster of 2008 lead to making that average person worse off and the rich richer. My favourite personal example of a situation with no exit is the Netherlands where they are so maxed out on credit and their insane policy of allowing interest on mortgages as 100% deductible led to a rat race which mean that house prices skyrocketed but wages haven't. It is said that over 30% of Dutch are in negative equity situation and if the bubble was to burst they'd be properly fked.

I saw a couple of pre-release Seamasters at a local Omega boutique back in June.

Black dial, steel, on a bracelet.

Blue dial, two tone gold and steel, on a rubber strap.

Sure the price has gone up, but they've got a ceramic bezel, an antimagnetic movement, and that dial. They're not a massive amount more expensive than something like a Black Bay, but offer a lot more in terms of materials, finish, and technology.

I guess that's the same logic that Apple fanbois will use to justify getting the new 1000+ gbp iPhone. And why Apple persists making these insane price increases.

These Seamasters are 900quid/33.3% more than BB steel with Rolex's movement inside and similar class of fit & finish. The only real difference is the bezel. 33.3% more for a bezel and a knowledge that you bought a watch that is Omega PO's peasant relative is ridiculous.
