Apart from hiring a shipping container office, what options can people think of to have somewhere dry and warm to work from for 6 months while building work is going on iin the house, including the office

I thought about buying a used garden pod, then re-selling it again after.

Shipping container offices.

Caravan, although these are not ideal due to sofa/kitchen/bed etc in the way, and ugly.

Its for over winter, so insulated/heated is a must, but apart from that, im easy.

Any other ideas?

Ugly compared to a shipping container??

I'd have thought a caravan makes most sense. Buy now at the end of the season and sell at the start.

The main issue with shipping container / portacabins is the transport cost and many won't deliver to residential addresses

A caravan is the most obvious - particularly if a toilet is required.

A shed which is then modified / insulated ?

Put an add in the Caravan Club offering free winter storage in exchange for using it as an office? Zero capital outlay.

I guess a caravan makes sense, as like you say I can buy cheaper now, then sell for the same in 6 months.

Just seems odd to pay for beds, kitchens, showers, toilets, microwaves etc, when all i need is an insulated cube.

Just cant stand the look of them or that terrible sofa fabric laugh

What would the comparative costs be between garden pod/office and renting space in an office like Regis?

I have to work from home as run a business from home too, and a newborn to help with

Plus I’m in the ass end of nowhere, office block wise at least

I hate myself for saying this, but it has to be a caravan.

I have a couple of garden summerhouse/office/studio jobbies, plus a container-type thing in the the garden, but for what you want I can't see anything more suited than a 'van.

Shepherd's hut. Plenty around for 2-3 grand, just resell it when you're done. You can even get them with a stove to burn all the offcuts of timber your house build will generate.

I’d start with dainton portable buildings in your neck of the woods

They might have something suitable

Or eBay. Usually something on there, whether it is local or not is another matter

A caravan does seem like a good option

I’m pretty sure you could unbolt various bits like the sofas etc to create more space for a traditional desk / chair

You never know you might be able to work whilst on holiday down in Margate wink

Why doesn't the company buy one of these garden office sheds as an asset, depreciate it over however many years the accounting policies allow for at the end of which it'd have zero value and be written off the books and all you have to do as the land owner where it's been cited is decide how best to "dispose of it" wink

It gets really complicated as regards capital gains calculations on the main house in the future if you do that. You also run the risk of being on the radar for being assessed for business rates on the building.

If you are VAT registered you can't even claim that back for similar reasons.

The amount you can claim for running costs is also very limited without attracting the wrong kind of attention.

If the governement was serious about tackling congestion / polution etc they would incentivise home working. As it is you have to run under the radar with minimal expenses so they don't screw you over.

Caravan. Turn living area into office space with toilet. Win win. Build cheap fence to hide caravan?
