Hi All,
Finally got round to making a start on my website.
Its here www.swfproductions.net/
If you have a mo, let me know what you think of the site and pictures.
Cheers
Simon
Pictures are great. Like the idea of the "Astrosnaps" - would definitely like to see more of them. and more of the Griff. Greek sunrises are the clear leaders IMHO
Diplomacy not being my strong suit, I'll just dive in: I have to say I don't find the site particularly......well "user-friendly" I suppose.
But I think I've twigged what I don't like; and that's that you have to make a couple of clicks to get there and then you have new windows popping up each image. So effectively it takes a little while to view them all. It's not the first site I've seen like this and won't be the last - I guess I just prefer when you can navigate back and forth in one window, or progressively through a set of images.....
....and I'd rather have a site like that than not see those sunrises at all

Thanks. Yeah, astrophotography is something I am very interested in. I will be purchasing a mount for my D70 to attach it to my telescope, so hopefully there will be some planet, constellation and nebulae pics soon...
Think the sunrises are my favourite too.
No, please feel free to comment
Only started this site yesterday, so is still very early in development, couldn't wait to upload it though!
So you think maybe some kind of slideshow option??
Cheers

Nice pics/ site..
A tad slow for us without broadband. (I'm always being accused of the same so I know what it's like).
Took nearly 60 secs to get the landscape page (was a bad time of day though).
I'm FINALLY coming round to the slideshow option for my pics. It's worth considering methinks.
Good luck
Steve

Cheers Steve.
Did think it was a little slow, might think about compressing the images some more, as I don't want to put people off just because they haven't got broadband.
Semms like a slideshow might be the way to go. That'll test my weak web authoring skills
Must admit, I do love your site and pics, check back there a lot, think it might have swayed me into doing my own.
Thanks
Simon

Hi Simon
Just looked at your site and i will comment truthfully as requested
Firstly the pictures are good
The front page is extremely proffesional imo although the word production/s does it no favours. Too, erm ....commercial maybe or like an old education slideshow.
Now if you could have something like "just simon" in a signature style in white bottom left so it doesn't interfer with that magnificent picture. Oh that maybe it!, the eye reads from left to right so the placement of the wording may marr the enjoment etc..
i have to say i din't like table style directory. After such a good front page it was almost as if you hadn't finished rendering it or something.
Also, people (generic
) are lazy! if you have to click load then a lot of people won't bother. I DID because i was enjoying your work.
Lastly i liked the idea of having the expansion thingy on the pics and the camera settings ( although a softer font may be better ).
Overall, a good site. I would keep the colours, background etc and try using thumbnails ( bevelled ).
Good

No offence (I'm not known for tact), but:
Personally I like the pictures, but I didn't like much about your site. Using Flash for your entire site is a big no-no as not only do you have loading & compatability (not very many now I grant) issues but unless you're very good at it, its always a bland layout and look, similarly search engines will never find your pages...
The pop-ups didn't work for me as I've got firefox and have switched them off, when I got them working the window which popped up didn't serve any purpose other than to display the picture - there was no frame, nothing, just a window.
Personally, it were me, I'd ditch the Flash in favour of clean HTML CSS (PHP if you want to be clever), but make sure you keep the layout fairly bland as you want people to look at the pictures, not your layout.
And before you say anything or are offended too much, I can say an awful lot of bad things about my site as well - I plan to do a complete redesign of mine in the near future and will still be able to find fault and critise!
bilko2 said:is something that should never be done - you don't want to slow someones access into your site and "enter" pages serve no purpose at all. It's extremely slow to load, even on my BB connection as well. Get rid of enter pages altogether!
