930 turbo: 476lbft (648Nm) & 500bhp

Occasionally in this life something comes along out of the blue that shocks you in a very pleasant way. Now in the game I play of tuning Porsche's this is not very often, indeed the norm is that expectations of performance are shattered on a daily basis, but today has not been another one of these days.
To set the scene, a new customer just happened to talk to me a few months ago about modifying his standard 930, so we hatched a plan involving the usual suspects, namely:
1. Top end rebuild
2. 964 Cams
3. 9m ported heads/injector blocks/inlet manifold
4. 9m Racing headers
5. K27 Turbocharger
6. 1.0 bar boost (spring or controller)
7. Intercooler
Such was JL's trust in us, when I mentioned that we were designing a new ballrace hybrid "quick spool" turbo and asked "would he like to try it instead of the normal K27?" he jumped at the chance. Wind forward 4 weeks and the job was done, minor problems with the turbo installation resolved.
So, after three abortive dyno runs due to wheelspin, I loaded Rob & Marc into the back seats, applied traction compound to the tyres and went for it. The result was positively shocking; I expected to see more than the usual 400bhp but what came out of the dyno screen was amazing:
400lbft at 3000rpm
476lbft at 4760rpm
500bhp flywheel (uncorrected) at 6000rpm
440bhp at the wheels at 5750rpm
all on no more than 14.5psi of boost & stock ignition timing.
I'll come back with more later, in the meantime I am going to check the running mixture as we will probably have to back it off a little so that the stock fuel system can run it safely. All we need now is a chassis that will handle all that spoot.
