They are on a personal lease and it's the 2.0 Petrol (jag) vs the 2l Diesel.

Trying to help some family friends choose an estate and elucidating the necessary info, the husband is about 6'8, two sons, and a large dog to fit in the boot (dog only smile )

Any pointers on which would be the better car would be appreciated?

Bear in mind Jags are absolute poverty spec as standard. I think the SB R-Sport even runs on horrific 17s and the stereo is rubbish, tempting as it is to have the 250bhp petrol variant. When leasing all the extras need to be costed in so make sure you're comparing like for like.

Thanks since they are going on a two year lease, they are not too worried about extras but will relay the info on!

If you like driving a car - The Jag

If you like gadgets - The Merc

If they want an estate, luggage space must be a factor. I believe the Merc has a significantly larger boot

With the requirements you list the extra space from the Mercedes would be where I'd be going.

Jag quality is crap but for a lease, ultimately not your issue, some hassle perhaps. The 250bhp petrol and its chassis will be a nice drive. Not sure about spec, assuming it’s standard “prestige” XF trim and SE Mercedes, I’m not sure what extras the Merc has versus the jag. The XF has reverse cam & sensors, electric seats, heated leather, climate, DAB. The spec on Mercs tends to get nice when you add the expensive packs. Interior on both are pretty meh in my opinion, 5 series is far superior. New a6 will probably better all of them.
