Afternoon chaps, the Mrs' A3 is coming to the end of it's life and we're looking to replace it with something fairly pronto. Due to shed loads of expense at home and work this year, we've not got a massive budget and looking to buy something half decent that will do us a couple of years before we can think about something fancy again. (Luckily she doesn't expect me to sell anything from my garage to pay for a new RR sport!)

We've narrowed it down to 3 local cars:
2012 Mercedes C220 CDI estate with 81k
2013 Audi A4 Avant 2.0 TDI with 103k
2010 Freelander 2.2 Aspen LE with 96k

I'm assuming the Mercedes will depreciate (further) the worst, the Freelander will cost the most to run, and the Audi may be the most boring option but after some other opinions please! Have had experience with all 3 brands so under no illusions, but haven't owned any of the models in question. We also have a second child on the way hence the options!

Thanks,
TC

The Audi will depreciate worse than the Mercedes especially with that mileage obviously spec is key on both but I'd be buying the Mercedes.

The Freelander will be solid & reliable, seeing as they're local test drive them to see which you prefer, for me it would be the Mercedes.

Thanks, I imagine we'll stick 20k on the clock so don't mind buying something with 100k already as either way it will have 6 digits when we sell in a year or two.

The Freelander looks good and the trim seems to hold up surprisingly well compared to some of the Discos that look worn prematurely but Merc and Audi interiors always impress too.

Given your obvious knowledge and enthusiasm I am amazed at that!

The later ones were a huge step up from the early ones & most of the running gear in the later ones went on to go into the Evoque.

Also I forgot to add I'm 6'7 & everytime I'm aware my shins are very close to the dash & as much as I like the way the XF drives I'd go for the E Class everytime.
