Adult Apprenticeships or Foundation Degree
Discussion
Wrong side of 30 and need a change of career. I'd always thought they were available only to school-leavers. I'm single, no family to support, no mortgage, prepared to move back with parents temporarily so ideal circumstances to make a career change happen.
Ideally I'm looking to get into engineering, HGV mechanic, failing that plumbing or last resort would be IT!
Currently looking at Scania and Volvo Trucks.
Past threads mentioned railways and Network Rail; utility companies - I don't know who to look up!
Any other companies to look out for?
What about Foundation Degrees? I wouldn't mind going back to uni and and actually finishing off a degree.

Plenty of older guys and gals making this jump. Some good sponsored education and qualifications. Especially if considering the engineering route there is good jobs at the end too.

I changed careersat 30 And did an apprenticeship with the main water utility company in my region, retrained to be a mechanical fitter, great job, pay could be better but having a secure job for the rest of my life is a bonus.
Loads of older apprentices’ in my year, generally we did a lot better that the younger lot and a lot of companies are seeing that now.
Money was tight for 4 years but it flew by!

Im in exactly the same situation and am also looking for HGV tech apprenticeships. Most seem to be already filled as they usually coincide with the school year for when they get sent to college. Im guessing you have looked at https://www.gov.uk/apply-apprenticeship
There are some about still. Good luck, seems once over 30 your chances of changing career drop dramatically as no one wants you lol.
