My friend drives an X5 M50d and is at just over 10k miles but the dash is contradicting itself by saying he needs a service in 600 miles or Oct 2019.

I have looked around the internet but can’t find a comprehensive answer to the question of schedule for service.

I advised not to worry as i think it’s 2 years or 20k but without him calling and potentially having his trousers pulled down I don’t really know.

Any techs or owners that can help?

In the Vehicle Status menu it will tell you what service the car requires in 600 miles time. I suggest he starts here...

... it's condition based servicing. So what ever needs doing, needs doing in 600 miles.

It would make more sense if that reading was 6k rather than 600 miles. Is it possible he has misread it?

Exactly this. It will not be oil but maybe brake pads. It will be clear from the Vehicle Status menu

^This.
It's no longer 2 years/20k or whatever.

Why isn't he just looking in the I-Drive, it will likely tell him what it needs rolleyes

How old is it?

If he's not too much mileage and lots of short urban journeys, it maybe the Ad-Blue tanks just needs topping up?

Could be lots of things, but just look in the I-Drive first, and if that doesn't tell you anything, then it's into BMW.

Ok thanks for the heads up all - we were in a bit of a rush and need to check in the menu a bit deeper. Just really surprised me at I think it was 10600ish that it would need to go in at under a year old as mine is higher milage and a month older but I'm not due for a long while. He does use it frequently where as I am more of a mix including long motorway trips.

That is odd that's its flagging up a requirement at that mileage and age as you say?

My 2017 X5 40d didn't flag up any service requirement until past 15 months old and approaching 16k miles.
