any views on the blue GT2 up for sale in Bristol.?
Im off on hols (panning the route via opc's) and they have meridian tt and the blue GT2...... omg
As im no longer a balls out driver, learnt my lesson there, perhaps the GT2 will be good for daily drive for me. (understand low ground clearance)

Yep - learnt my leasson. I think I thought that as the car did have so many 'aids' I got complacent and over confident. Hence a big off.
I had a string of Caterham 7's including a super fast Superlight R for many years and drove them fast but more carefully (in hindsight) but not stupidly.
I had a stupid moment in the tt - not the cars fault , my fault, which could happen in any car if there is a stupid driver. So as I have really really learnt my lesson and want to see my twin baby girls grow up, I will be a lot more careful.
I bet the GT2 sounds awsom?? Understand about the ceramic brakes - maybee they will box them and put on normal for me, maybee I shouldnt worry.....

If I had a straight choice between a GT2 and a Turbo, I would go for the GT2 and hang everything!

I reckon the 996 GT2 would be a much better daily driver than my car, and you could drive a 993 RS every day (although mine is a little loud).
The GT2 is much more exclusive than a Turbo and it looks significantly better.
Just buy the GT2.

as you probably know i recently bought a gt2, and i thoroughly rate it, though probably not as an everyday car. i really intend to use mine for the track and that's about it, although the odd weekend blat will clearly be in the offing. you do only live once, so if you are looking at it, get it, tick the box and move on if you find out it's not what you actually want. i however feel i will be keeping mine for some time to come. all i can say is that it's the car i always wanted, but didn't realise it until i bought it. if you have the opportunity just do it. life is not a dress rehearsal. i can't see how you won't enjoy it... don't know where you live but if it's the marlow area let me know and i'll take you for a drive in mine. the gt2 is a gosple that needs to be spread...

There are other GT2s out there that aren't blue.
I get the feeling that you are in a bit of a hurry to buy something. Mate, chill out, go and drive these cars. Ask to borrow them for the afternoon. We are talking about a large pot of cash here.
And make sure you buy the model you want in the colour you want. There are plenty of cars out there to buy. Yes, you may need to wait a little longer to get the exact GT2 you might want, but there are bloomin hundreds of Turbos out there.
Which is why I would go for the GT2.
Im not keen to spend about 500 a month on a hire car and still get a corsa ! and not having a car is a problem for my wife and using hers.
So supose I am keen to get a replacement quickly. Plus Im heading towards Bristol in the next few days anyway so it make sence to have a look and feel of the meridian tt and the GT2
On the opc site, there are very few black manual 2003 model lowish miles tt's for about 70k - which is what I had. Black would be good but not essential if the rest of the car was good. I drove 4 tt's - 1 handled poorly, 2 handled ok, and 1 handled fantasticly - which is the one I went for. So there is nothing to say these will 'flow' right for me.
Im tempted by the meridian because of the power pack but not so keen yet on the colour - will need to see it in the flesh to be sure. There is a nice looking tt in Scotland, colbolt blue, which it also tempting.

If you go the GT2 route, mine could be worth considering...silver and a lot less miles than the one you're looking at, steel brakes, balance of Porsche warranty (which is renewable for about £750) and cheaper. Only disadvantage I can see is that I don't do credit!

Superlight, definately get a GT2. When I bought my GT3 last year, the dealer had a black GT2 for sale which I took for a short drive.
The strightline performance even in standard state of tune is awesome (0-100 in just over 8 seconds)and can be tuned for more power if required. One downside was the rather bland engine note (nothing like a GT3)but a nothing a decent sports exhaust wouldn't fix. I proberbly wouldn't get one as an everyday car due to the ride height.
I'd ditch the ceramic brakes and get steel items to avoid big bills.
Chris Harris, the Autocar editor recently bought a GT2 and loves it. His advice to GT2 owners was to ditch the standard Michelin Pilot Sport tyres and replace them with Pirelli Corsa track day spec tyres. Apparently this improves the handling dramatically.

Meridian's a great colour, but I would say that... It looks quite different in different light - anything from close to arctic silver in bright sunlight, to a slight red tint in low light. Suits a TT well, I reckon - more of a GT than a racing colour...

sorry to ask this question, but if you had a big off in a TT why are you thinking of a GT2, with more power, two wheel drive instead of four & no PSM!!
I appreciate that the TT may have lulled you into a false sense of security & I know it can be "twitchy" on some days for no apparent reason! As fabulous as the GT2 is it doesn't take prisoners & is certainly far less predictable than a TT!!

What I want to know re the GT2 is why when it was first released it got a bit of a slating, as not being as honed as the gt3 (mk1) and TT, but when re tested the updated (483hp) version at EVO they changed their opinion and professed it one of the best Porsche's out there.
What did Porsche actually change, aside from the engine management and alloys on the newer version of the car?
Is this a case of 'find-a-story-where-there-is-none' in the motoring press?

If you believe Chris Harris, who has a bit of a vested interest now, it was down to the tyres.
Just back, had a look at the Meridian 996tt and the GT2.
Asked about the GT changing to steel disc - about 5.5K which is too much for me to budget in for brakes that I beleive will need doing in the near future. There were already some small crack marks on the front discs which did not look like surface marks. It also had a fair few dings/knocks and clearly has done a lot of track with 20k on the clock. It did not grab me in the flesh.
The 996tt x50 was nice to drive etc, and in the flesh was an acceptable colour but didnt float my boat. Im still after black.
So the hunt continues....
