Thinking of buying a new Honda CR-V EX (2018) or the Audi Q5 S line with some added options. Which of these rwo is likely to hold their resale value in 3 to 4 years time please?

Look in the classified adverts, and see how much 2014/5 models are selling for?
Check the cost of leasing. Lower total cost for a 3 year lease generally means less depreciation or big manufacturer discounts.

I assume this is the 1.6 turbo petrol?

Some of the reviews are mixed and I was looking at a last of the line 2.0 petrol EX of the old shape, I may well wait until the 2.0 Hybrid comes out next year now. Not sure residuals of the old model will be that accurate (they may well be). Hopefully the new model may push second hand prices down, then again the diesel prices may firm up as there is a concern by the towing fraternity that the petrol versions may not be up to it.

It is the 1.6 Turbo I am looking at. I have the 2015 EX model.

Saw the new 1.6 Turbo in a showroom and looks imprresive but without discounts on new models, I might as well consider likes of Audi Q5. Depreciation is a concern though - plan is to hold the new car for at least 4 years.

Have you petrol or diesel at the moment? I am looking at one to replace and Accord Tourer Cdti. Worried at DPF as its a Honda only £3.5k bill if/when if fails. I would be looking at keeping a new one for at least 6 years, hence looking at either a new one in the new year or a late register one, I am waiting to confirm a new job which is 20 miles each way which I think should be good enough to keep a DPF happy. Only issue is you don't know how full a DPF is on a second hand car!

If your concerned about depreciation then i wouldn't bother buying new.

The more you spend the more you lose, I wouldn't see a Q5 as a much better financial proposition over the CRV.

This if you want to see how a model is depreciating do the above.

Agreed. How would the Q5 rate for comfort for the 4 odd years? If it is new, I assume low maintenance costs (or 3 year service plan taken)

Buy a year old one that's got a service plan (& taken it's biggest hit depreciation wise) you can extend the Manufacturer's Warranty so you still get the peace of mind you're looking for.
