BMW Z4 Roadster 2004 drivers window problem
Discussion
Hi all, hoping someone can help me , My Z4s window suddenly started to make crunching and cracking noises and is now stuck open . When I try to close it , the motor runs and the wind comes up about an inch . When I open the door it still drops a little , like it won when fully closed.
I tried the regulator reset procedure but that makes no difference
From the various comments I've seen on here and other places its sounds like I need to replace or repair the regulator , or the lifter clips, but in order to do either the window has to be up about half way so I can access the rear regulator fixing bolt but my window is stuck down and won't budge and therefore the Glass is in the way so I can't access the fixing bolt at the rear of the door , arrrrgh !
Can anyone help me ?

I had the regulator fail on my Z4 and it sounded like that.
The first time though was on a TT and the window was stuck open, in the rain. I called the RAC and he put gloves on, gripped the pane on both sides and yanked it up. When I had it repaired there wasn't any extra damage other than the regulator.
From memory, don't you have to disconnect the battery before taking the door panel off?

I've tried the 'yank it up ' method , still won't budge, I've tried banging on the motor to see if it will go further up but it won't move
I've removed the door trim and the insulation and the air bag and inner window seal , the fact that the motor runs and moves the window (albeit only by an inch or two) suggests to me that cable and motor are both OK, I' ve looked down from the top of the door and from the runners seem to be clear and properly engaged with the sliders .
So cutting the cable is an option but its hard to identify which is the cable through the small holes in the door
Don't really want to go to the stealer, they want £450 to replace the regulator without even seeng it
any other comments or ideas would be very welcome
