I've owned my turbo since new in 2003 and now fancy a change, the only thing tempting me is the turbo cabriolet, is the cab going to be a mistake or should I look at the 997 cab ?.
Do cabs drive much different, also having lost around £30k over 12000 miles what do you think would hold it's value better a £85k year old turbo cab or an £80k 997 cab.
Appreciate any advice

I recon the the 997 cab will hold its money a tad better, but these cars loose thousands regardless.
The 997 cab is going to seem like a tortoise compaired to the tt.

It's a hard one, I'm going through the same "what next" pains, have been for a while now. I've had mine for nearly two & a half years & still love it, recently it is faster than ever & is simply flying, tried the 997 but it simply felt slow & less involving. Thought about the cab. but don't think I could stand the extra squeaks & rattles that come with a cab. plus at the end of the day it will be very similar to what we already have! The 997TT will be out late 05/ early 06 & is a big temptation, only trouble is speculators have created a two year wait already!!
The Gallardo is still tempting me, but only when values drop to sensible levels, the AMV8 looks like fun, but has a three year wait!!!
I wish you best of luck with this one & am interested in your final decision.

I have turbo cab, and think it's way overpriced for what it is.

The problem with it is that this version came out late in the life cycle of the 996, so by the time it was launched, it looked dated, and no sooner had i got it, then all the hype for the 997 came along and made the car seem rather old hat IMHO.

I certainly don't feel like i'm driving a £104k car when i'm in it.

Having said all these negatives, i still don't think there is another soft top out there at the moment that can much it for all round driving dynamics and capabilities

i do not think that the overall dynamics are much different from the coupe, as there is extra structural work to compensate for this, but is suffers a little from skuttle shake, which is innevitable for nearly all soft tops i suppose.

I'd be inclined to get a 997 4s Cab next time.

I went from a 996TT to a 996TT Cab, whilst the performance and handling is pretty much the same as each other (except for those who really know what their doing)
The differences I have found are;
The cab sounds better, you can really hear the exhaust and Induction noise with the roof down.
As said prior the cab doesn't look its money, mind you neither does the coupeTT.
The cab loses it for me as I still love the 911 rear window and roofline, of which the cab doesn't have, the coupe is a far better looking car IMHO.
I went touring Switzerland when I collected the cab and after that couldn't think of having a tin top on that sort of driving route.
I have to decide over again as I have a 997TT and TTcab on order and still can't make my mind up.
And before people say, yes I do get plenty of days with the roof down.
