Was watching the usual rubbish on youtube and a vid popped up of some youtuber buying a mystery box off ebay for 10K, he gets the box in the post and there are about 4-5k worth of randon tech/goods inside. Its all part of the vid to show what you get and the youtuber is either loaded or gets paid from clicks/followers.

I was talking to my friend and said this seems mad from both sides seller & buyer

Seller, you post an ebay ad for a mystery box and someone sends you 10K, you spend 5K on randon tech/goods and post it out - 5K profit. The buyer can not open a dispute because the items are not as described, nothing was described.
If a dispute is opened for any other reason and you send back the box, the seller has to refund and is stuck with the goods. The buyer could even "forget" to put items back in the box so the seller is out of pocket and the buyer has just got free stuff. Remember the seller has your address so may pop round to collect.

Hate to be synical but I imagine it's all fixed, the buyer knows the seller and no money was transferred. All for clicks.

Pretty disappointing how click/like driven the internet has become.

What’s in it for the buyer? He knows that the contents of the box will be worth less than he pays for it

The mystery? Thats the risk who knows it may be worth more.

I was at a market once and they were selling mystery bags for £5 and the contents were promised to be worth £15. Inside was a set of kitchen utensils that were indeed £15 if bought from argos. The seller probably got them cheap beacuse the boxes were damaged or some kind of liquidation sale.
Bit different to risking 10K I know.
