Hi,
just bought an s1 elise and having a few probs already. When i picked it up it wouldnt idle and would just cough and die, dealer said it hadn't been run for a while and just needed warming up, which it seems was true as it idles ok now.
However, when braking hard or coming down from motorway speed to stop at a roundabout, even with clutch fully down it just dies.. has also happened quite a lot in slow traffic today as well so not sure if it is just coming down from speed..
The pipe that goes from the air intake to the air box is broken in 2, which i didnt notice at the dealer! grr.. could this be the prob? getting a new pipe anyway obviously.
Any ideas,? Thanks.

There is a technique to reset the idle. I am not to technical re Lotus electrics but i did this and it sorted my problem out. The reasons why this works i will leave to anothers.

turn the ingnition to on position, but don't start the car, then press release the gas peddle 5 times, this will do some magic and reset something... like i said someone else can explain the techy bit. Now what this did to my Lotus is give a rock solid idle, no worries now when pulling up at roundabouts.

That hose could be the problem, i used to get this problem on my old clio because the idle speed control is so primitive it never used to know what it was doing. i would say it was the idle speed control valve

"5 pedal press" resets the ECU. That may sort it. Not sure if that pipe will be the problem but indeed could be an issue with the IACV I suppose.

Someone with infinitely more knowledge will come along soon enough and point you in the right direction. If it's not running right after the ECU reset I'd take it back to the dealers (presumably came with a warranty) and get both the pipe and the crap idle fixed by them.
