Can anyone advise what Model/Engine configuration of Evoque is best for towing?

Any advice welcomed smile

A car transporter/race shuttle trailer similar to this:

Approximate weight of the car in transporter would be 1.5 tonnes

Do you mean of "car and transporter", the weight of both together? Because that'll be right on the towing weight for the lower end of the range.

If you mean of the car in the transporter, plus the weight of the transporter, then you're only using the top-end of that BJ range, which is 790kg empty - so 2.3t with the car inside. That's heavier than any Evoque's rated to tow.

I'd assume as above that it'd be too heavy for an Evoque.

If you're looking at Land Rovers then the Discovery Sport (I believe) has a towing capacity of 2,500kg which sounds like it would work.

Obviously Discovery, RRS and FFRR would all be fine, too.
F-Pace worth a look, too.

Make sure your license allows you to drive at these weights as well - the limits have changed over the years.

I have a DS. The towing capacity is either 2000kg or 2200kg depending on the precise model.

They all come with a tow bar fitted and some are electrically operated, some not.

<nods> Car licences changed for tests in 1997. B+E isn't there.

Bit of careful spec, and kerb + max towing should come in on or just below 3,500kg.

Even without, it looks like it's only ragtop Evoques that approach 2t kerb, so if the total trailer + car is 1,500kg, you're still quids in.
But if the trailer + car is 800 + 1,500, then you're stuffed even in a (slightly tubbier) Disco Sport with enough towing capacity.

Interesting on the tow bar - wish the same was true with RRS!

The LR literature states the DS 180 TD4 and 240 SD4 have a towing limit of 2,500kg - not sure if they've just released new models/engines.

Eh? Towbars are an option, they don't come with one fitted as standard.

Why would they when they can charge £905 for a detachable or £1,060 for an electronically deplyable one?

An Race Shuttle 3 has an unladen weight of around 900Kg depending on optional extras. Max Evoque towing that I can see is 2000kg. 900kg+15000kg=2400kg=too much!

Anyone know if the SD4 or TD4 is better for towing?

Sixpackpert,

When I got my DS I was told by the salesperson at the LRMD that all DS models had a tow bar, presumably a standard non electrically operated one. I'm aware that now they are all listed as extras. So, I presume a normal one was always fitted as standard, but from a later time they became optional.

I think that the salesperson is talking BS to be honest.

I can believe that having bought 3 brand new JLR products (1 x XF and 2 x D4's) and only finding one salesperson that actually knew what they were talking about. Most of the time I was telling them things about the car.

Like I say I would be very surprised if they fitted towbars as standard, why would they?

He probably told you that to disguise the fact that it had done 10,000miles of hard towing before you bought it lol
