Alfa 156 2.0TS - Down on Power
Discussion
Thanks for the reply.
I did a bit more fault finding yesterday and think that it may be the MAF sensor. I know that on my old Audi S4 that when the MAF was faulty the ECU would go into safe mode and this appears to be similar with the Alfa. I have unplugged the MAF and the car runs as normal, eg there is no drop in power at 3500 rpm. Therefore I will order a new one. Does anybody know if you can run the car without the MAF? Or is best to leave the faulty MAF in place and keep the car running with low power until the replacement arrives?

You can run with the MAF unplugged and it should run the engine at a default safe setting. A failed MAF feels exactly like you have described - blocked catalyst/banana up the tail pipe etc...
The MAF is a Bosch part so you don't need to go to Alfa for it. They are about £140 ish...
