another boring issue :)
Discussion
Ok im sure the answer is here somewhere but did a quick search to no avail, I have an 80k 2008 gen 1 997 what I consider to be showing first signs of bore problems , left hand exhaust sooty and just changed plugs left bank nice and grey right bank black and the one accessible in wheel arch I would say oily , used a bore scope and they look ok , there are some very light marks but nothing serious but hey its done 80k , its not using any noticeable oil and with new plugs is running like a dream , it was spluttering a bit down low now I can see it was due to the plugs on the right bank , so here's the question ….what sort of life expectancy can I expect in mileage before i'm calling HARTECH ..That's providing that my IMS doesn't explode first
I know its not an exact science just wondered if anyone had run one like this for 5,10,15k miles and would like to have some idea how long I have to save up
I do drive it quite hard occasional track day , nurburgring run etc ...so is anyones crystal ball working ?
thanks in anticipation

Give Hartech a ring. I spoke to them a while ago simply to ask for some advice. I’ve never spoken to such a friendly and obliging professional. The chap (not sure who) was happy to spend a good while passing on his knowledge and didn’t for one second give me the impression I was being a nuisance. IMHO they’re the best out there but they’re also passionate about what they do and happy to help.
My 2005 3.8S with 90000 miles on it has had a sooty left hand side exhaust for the last 40,000 miles or so. It uses next to no oil and runs like a new car.
I would forget about it until other more serious symptoms arise, like heavy oil usage for example
Who knows, it may never happen?
My view is if my car gets to 100,000 miles, a rebuild isn't the end of the world on what is effectively a supercar.
On the other hand it might go on for many more miles than 100,000

This is the sort of answer I was hoping for I would forget about it until other more serious symptoms arise, like heavy oil usage for example

thank you and yes I agree ,I know that this engine is not Porsches finest moment but as supercars go they take some beating, I'm not hopeful that mine will go another 40k
but as long as it lasts long enough that I can put some money aside for a rebuild Gassing Station | Porsche General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
