aftermarket alloys

i'm looking to fit a set of 17" alloys to my '98 chimaera, after phoning for fitment (i'm aware that they are the standard ford 4 stud) i was told by their "tvr specialist" (their words not mine) that the length of the studs on the hubs restricted which wheels were fitted i.e. the studs were very short??
anyone else have this problem or is he just speaking a lot of b£££$%&ks??

I've just had 16" all round on my Chim (see my profile ) and am not aware of any probs. Be careful of 17". They can tramline and are more bumpy on the road. Peter

Got 17" and 18" on mine with absolutely no probs. There are loads of threads on this topic, check them out.

I can understand how larger wheels with lower profile tyres can give a harsher ride but (all other things being equal) how are they more prone to tramlining?
