How to work out what my car is really worth!

I know wbac and Evans halshaw undervalue so what can I assume my car is worth!

It’s a mk7 golf gti performance pack 2016 16 plate 5dr dsg in whiteit’s currently got 34k and will have 38k when i put it up for sale next September
Full leather seats
Winter pack so heated seats and washers
Dynaudio upgrade
Nav pro
Pan roof
Adaptive cruise
Climate control
Dsg gearbox
90% tints
Reversing camera
Performance pack (more hp over the gti a fancy diff and bigger brakes)
Electric folding heated mirrors
Anti dazzle rear view mirror

Wbac has said its worth 17,700 and Evans halshaw has quoted me 17,900

So what’s its real value??

NOTE FOR MODERATORS AND ADMIN THIS ISNT A SALE THREAD I’m merely asking with Jose options what is my car worth if wbac usually quote you less than stated value

Given it's exactly the type of thing they'd want (I think), I guess it's about right?

I would say 17 is a good price since there’s similar age cars selling anywhere from 17-18ish for base spec cars through to 22-23k for cars with similar spec to yours (which tbh I think is too much really)

The only options of note are:
Leather
Dynaudio
Performance pack
Pro nav
Pan roof
Tints
Camera

The rest is standard GTI spec.

I would say 19-20k would be a fair price at a dealer so wbac price is about right.

It's decent spec so maybe try a few specialists or stick it on tootle and see what happens.

I got a few hundred more via tootle for my base spec GTi.

It’s worth what someone will pay. Currently that’s £17,900. Impossible to predict the value in 12 months time, far too many variables.

I’m basing it on today even though I’m not selling yet! I expect in 12 month time for it to be around 15-16 on wbac

At the mo with them offering 17,700 I would summise sticking it on at 19 and accept 18500 I think that would be fair

So in 12 month time if they offer me 15700 I could possibly get 17 for it with it been a good spec I’m looking at 4 yr old gtis at 15-16k and they don’t have much of a spec

I will be taking it to Audi to see what they offer me for it next September as I’m hoping to get into a rs3 if the new one is out failing that a q5/x3 or new evoque

I doubt your offer from WBAC will be over 15 next year. And more like 14.

Then I will switch to autotrader for values by looking at what they’ve got with what spec but even if they offer 14500 it should still be worth 16 with my spec! I know when I ordered mine there was nothing with the same spec second hand and after enquiringly on ph members said it would be cheaper to buy new with the 2nd hand interest rates compared to new! It seems rare to have leather pan roof and pro nav and dynaudio! Just there alone is 4K in options which should help against base spec cars

It will lose more than £1k in a year, options won't save you from that.

Well at the moment theres a few 15 plates up at 17900 and a white one at over 18 with 34k on the clock but basic spec so that’s a year older than mine so if I can assume at 3yr old mine will be worth around 17-18k with a very rare top spec at 4yr old it hopefully won’t lose a further 3-4k

In fact just looked and there’s a lot of basic 2014 cars at around 15,500-17k that would work for me tbh

I know they won’t BUT if there’s a few basic cars at 15,500-16k and I advertise mine as all singing and all dancing for 17k if I was on the hunt I’d take mine with those options over the 15,500 cars personally

Plan is to advertise it next September in ph classifieds auto trader and eBay but also see what dealers will give me for it and go with the highest! I would like a ph member to have it but money talks! Only thing with ph classifieds is I wish they had a member section where you can only sell to members I’m very dubious about all and sundry coming round to view and trying to nick it or trying to swap keys so they can come back later, although I’d probably give my workshop address and let them pick up and view from there

It might be worth 17k in a years time, it might be worth 14k, it might be worth £2.50. A lot can happen in a year and no-one knows it's true value. You will only know it's true value when someone drives it away and have handed you the money. You also cannot rely on WBAC as whilst an online valuation might say 15k, when you turn up it'll be less than that despite how perfect you think the car is.

The sensible thing to do would be, not worry about the value of your car, enjoy driving it and when it comes time to sell, then worry about the value?

In your opinion. Personally I wouldn't buy it because;

a. it's White
b. it has the fake VW leatherette that very quickly looks tired and saggy
c. it's a 7 not a 7.5 so it has the really old dry 6sp DSG rather than the vastly improved wet 7sp DSG that gives better economy and quicker gear changes
d. no DCC
e. above average milage
f. for not much more I could get a 7.5, albeit with less options, but a better overall car.

Judging by your repossess so far, it doesn't sound as if you're going to listen to what people have to say here, but IMO, I think you're in for a big shock if you think that car is going to be worth that much in 12mths time. Right now, the WBAC prices are probably right if you're going to trade it, and privately you might get a bit more, but not much. In 12mths time a 7.5 will have hit circa £20k (and possibly below), so for not much more than what you think yours will be worth a buyer could have a better facelift car.

There was a suggestion earlier on in this thread that your best bet will be independent specialists. I agree, they will be the only people who take the options into serious consideration, even if that really does make much of a difference.

Cheers for that I agree specialists are the way to go and a lot can happen in the next 12 month!
I wouldn’t say it will be above average mileage though, when I sell it, it will have around 36-38k! I used it loads in its first 2yrs but scaled it back as I have 2 other cars so only use it when going on some nice jaunts

Average miles on a GTi is classed as 8-10k. So a 3yr old car should have 24-30k on the clock, yours will have 20-30% more.

I'm really not trying to be negative, but it is coming across slightly as if you're trying to convince yourself about something you know deep down isn't true.

Depreciation on VW's is horrendous, go and play on the finance calculator to see how ste the GFV's (or as they call them now the 'optional final payment') are. A few weeks ago I nearly bought a Golf R estate. 9 months old with a List price of £39,900. The car was being offered to me for £30k which I thought was a reasonable saving, but then I started looking at current p/x values... 'trade' values were coming back at £25,500-£26,000. It's a 9month old car, so sure the figures are harsher as the depreciation curve is steeper at the start, but it gives you some indication of where prices may be if a £40k Golf R Estate is trading at circa £15k off its list price after only 9months. Suffice to say I pulled out of the deal

EDITED to add: VWFS calculator is currently quoting £13,755.60 GFV after 3 years on a new Golf GTi DSG Performance.

Oh I’m not trying to convince myself of anything tbh I’ve just been watching autotrader at the prices,

Discounts on new are very good you could have got a brand new R estate for nearer 30k rather than a 9 month old one, when I was looking I could get a 6 month old gti pp for 24k but when I went and looked at discounts I could get a brand new one for that, retail price on my car was 37k and I got it for 30k I then put a 6k deposit down then finance at 4.9% my gfv is 11500 based on 40k after 4yrs BUT as I say a 4yr old basic gti with 35-40k is up at 16-18k

Well, good luck to you. I hope you are right, and everyone else is wrong. For all our sakes (as it will mean Brexit hasn’t quite fked the economy as much as currently predicted).
