The subject line says it all really. Do I join PCGB or TIPEC.
Just brought a 944 and can't see a lot of difference between the 2 although PCGB has higher membership fee!
Do most suppliers give discounts for either membership? Most of the ads I note say PCGB discounts.

I used to be a member of PCGB, but I didn't rejoin as there was no club activity in my area (North Wales) and I thought the membership fee was too much to pay for a few magazines a year. I would suggest that if your insurer offers a discount for membership, or you spend a lot on parts and accessories, or you live in an area with a lot of club events (see www.pcgb.co.uk) PCGB is worth joining. Otherwise get 911 & PW and spend time on here instead.

I have no experience of TIPEC but it seems to me that they are weighted towards the water cooled models, which is fine if that's what floats your boat.

I just joined PCGB recently purely for the 10% discount on parts. I seem to be spending alot since i started tracking my car, so the fee has paid for itself and more.

Jim,
I joined PCGB. Expensive but worth it.
Can't speak for tipec. I have heard good things of it, but have no personal knowledge.
Regards,
Mike.

I pretty much have to agree with Patrick 1964.
For me there wasn't any real activity in west yorkshire, but in after a year of being a pcgb member, I got fed up of the magazine just talking about the members and where they've been etc.. I'm more interested in the cars, and 911 & pw seem to have the same attitude, so buy the magazine, it's better than the pcgb mag, and use pistonheads, but also rennlist is suberb.

I Joined PCGB, but mainly to get discounts etc.....free european breakdown cover, free trackday cover if PCGB organised etc.....sometimes you win, other times not so.

I think the Rennlist site is well worth a visit and hang out there most days.

Tipec is/was tilted towards the early water pumpers when I last looked about 2/3 years ago....

If you like 911 world yadda, you may like the new total911 mag, I haven't seen one yet, but have been told it's due on sale soon, and should be in WHSmiths etc.

I went along to a TIPEC meeting on a trial basis with the 993 and had the feeling that everyone was looking at me like I was an alien as they were all in 924/ 944/928's and Boxsters. Never went back but that's just my £0.02 worth.

Yep, I joined for the 10% off too.

I went to a local PCGB meet once, and, erm, won't be going to another. Very nice people, just not my cup of tea.

Best Porsche clubs?

You're on this one (PH Porsche forum), and there's one just like it over on Rennlist.

Welcome to the fold.

If your into trips to the Algarve, or got a late water pumper 924/944/968, you can pretty much forget PCGB.
NOt to say that there are "NOT" 44 people members of PCGB.

TiPEC, friendly, no stranger to lifting the bonnet for members or NON-MEMBERS, meetings attendance not only for members.

Club insurance.... no comment, I wouldnt join just for that.

discount, you can and will get discount from OEM 10%, its not official but you can.

A previous poster said about a neweer porsche being not welcome. depends on the area, some areas have boxsters and newer 9xx models. However your atypical boxster owner is not going to have that much in common with TipEC members as they would PCGB, so you might get some "mistrust" for want of a better word, some people who turn up are not what you would call "proper enthusiasts" but after freebies or show off there 70k worth of car.

Of course not saying all 9xx/boxster people are like that.

so "generally"

924/944 early 911 = TiPEC
Daddy bought your Porsche = PCGB

Both have their pros and cons. I've been a PCGB member for 11 years.

Some PCGB Regions/Registers far more active than others, but like all Clubs, it's what you put in to it that makes the Club.

For more Porker chat, also try www.911uk.com and www.titanic.co.uk.

Can't say I'm unbiased though!!

I would say its good to join a few forums/clubs like most people on this forum. PCGB is very good for that 10% discount at OPC and its always best to check the prices at OPC before buying parts anywhere else.

Well bite-me comments settled it. Just joined TIPEC!
Pick car up tomorrow. Its a 944 Lux, white on an E 1987
needs some work but at the money it was the best I've seen. Got monday off to do a quick oil change & fit some music in it. Loads of TR Register events over the weekend. Brands Hatch CSMA Classic meet on Saturday & TR Register tour from Sandwich in Kent finishing at Kent Rural Museum in Maidstone (M20 J6) at around 15:00.
30 years of TR7 so we should end up with about 150-200 cars!

I know what you mean - but that really isn't completely fair.

Yes I own a Boxster, Yes I'm a PCGB member, no Dad didn't buy me it - I had to manage that myself.

Do I go to monthly meetings etc? No. I'm not "clubby" like that. But I *do* go to the club trackays - which are like a little club within a club for the regulars.

I love the fact that the days aren't just about the driving (which they are *mostly*) but are also social occasions where members discuss their cars, their driving, techniques and tales. Good fun.

There is no bias in terms of age of machinery at these days. Although very few drivers choose to take a Boxster to the track I don't feel out of place - especially in the wet, especially when I am passing people.

Good fun. Recommended.

Sorry Don, but I think you may be DAD!

I'd try each locally and see which you prefer. If not
a club person. Go from what else you get.

I'm happy with PCGB at present but I'm also a Dad, sorry, correction, I'm Grandad!

WRT to the 10% discount

Some OPC's (e.g. Exeter, Colchester) are a LOT more friendly for "old" parts

You can get much better discounts and shock, horror no one ever asked to see a membership card

Titanic has a brilliant 944 email list
