A bit of nostalgia for early Playstation owners, anyone remember 'Driver' the game?

GTA 3 was released a short while later which changed everything. While more Driver games were released, they were never quite matched the original.

I watched a video about the rise and fall of driver on YouTube today. It was pretty interesting.
I loved 3 the best. I liked the driving physics and that the cars were softly sprung like a road car would be when ragged around the streets.
That's what I watched which inspired this thread I loved 3 the best. I liked the driving physics and that the cars were softly sprung like a road car would be when ragged around the streets.

I didn't bother posting is as I thought others might find it boring, but I do like that channel - feels like History Channel for games.
Here's the vid in discussion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBRqVZObvu0&t=...
Huh - this is weird; I just watched ColourShedProductions video series on the Driver franchise - the 'rise and fall' vid has been floating around my recommendations as well but I haven't watched it. I LOVED Driver back in the day; it's the one game I remember agonizingly waiting for to be released and then played the hell out of it, along with Driver 2 and Driv3r - loved them all. Watching CSP's vids gave me nostalgia but also I forgot how appalling the framerate was in the original game! But there was nothing else like it back then. TBH I never knew about the laboured production of the 3rd game, I played it years after it came out and enjoyed it, probably the best of the series for me.
I wonder if I'm the only one that liked Driver San Francisco? I remember reading about and thinking that it was going to be utter drivel and flying around was going to be utterly stupid. However the reviews were relatively positive so I bought it and I really enjoy it with all the elements. I bought it on steam too so occasionally will reinstall it and then play through again and again. Only issue for me is that it lost some of the grit from the earlier ones but I guess that's a symptom of moving the era forwards to a more modern time.
Wish they would bring another one out but doubt it could cope with GTAV and it would only ever be niche.
Ubisoft would be the right publisher for it as they make tons of money reskinning their basic franchises. Really hope that the guys who did the driving physics for The Crew1/2 aren't involved though because they have obviously never driven a car in real life or any arcade racing games. Either that or they are stupid f

king oxygen theives... Isn't the last story mission where you drive down the highway with Jericho zapping cars with lightning bolts so they fly at you?. I can see why people might not try it, typing that out makes it sound ridiculous but somehow it worked really well!
I definitely enjoyed the driving in it, masses of sliding and they really got the tyre smoke looking realistic.

It was a great game and brings back some fond memories.
Being from Newcastle I particularly liked the end credits where the Jag drives over the Tyne bridge and round the quayside.
