Roast or Steaks

Given a piece of suitable meat of an appropriate size, would you prefer to cut it up into steaks and cook those using your preferred method or keep it in one piece, roast it and then serve it as thick slices.
For beef - sirloin, ribeye or fillet, I am very much of the view that roasting a whole piece is far nicer than cooking steaks
For pork loin I think I'm on the fence. I love the proper crackling that you can only get by roasting, but I also love the crispy fat on a pork chop that you miss out on when roasting
