I took the Tiv out on Thursady night for my weekly jaunt to visit my son.

45 miles of enjoyment without hitch.

When the time came to come home, would it start. Not a hope!!! Turns over well but no start.

I checked for a spark and it was there and plenty bright. As I had no tools and no 'S' bible with me I was a bit stuck.

Thankkfully the GF agreed to drive the 45 miles to collect me. Tiv was left on the grass verge.

I went over today with bible and tools in hand. Turns out that the pink fuel pump relay had burned out.

After several trips, I managed to find a Ford Dealer with one in stock.

For anyone else with an S1 (not sure if the later cars have the same electrics)the part number is 6107322 and it cost about £23 plus the tax.

I was considering getting a spare until he told me the price.

The good news is that with it fitted, I am back mobile again.

It's the first time the 'S' has let me down and hopefully it won't happen again for a while.

I am not sure how to get the part number added to the parts list but think it would be a useful addition if anyone knows how.

Generally these relay/sensor units dont 'burn out'.
They are prone to mechanical failure of the solder joints where the relay is soldered to the circuit board.
I have repaired mine many times over the years.

I did buy a replacement unit 15 years ago and the Ford garage said they had a box full of dead ones. So I took a handfull and repaired them. So theres always a spare in glovebox

And now I read the responses after I have thrown the old one out.

LeTVR is correct in that one terminal had come loose. I suspect it may have been a problem for some time as the plastic had melted around it.

Turn the bin out when I get home then.... To find the old one for repair.
