Im looking at a 15 month old Yamaha XSR900 It’s a private sale with only 400 miles on it. The rider has had neither the 600 “safety check” or any other service done since he bought it due to serious illness.

These bikes come with 3 years warranty. The deal I can do with him will save me £1000 over a dealer price although most have done a lot more miles so price wise it’s good.

I’m just interested to know if warranty goes on time as well as mileage, with a car it usually stipulates for example 12,000 miles or 12 months, whichever sooner.

My local dealer are next to useless they passed round 3 people before I could even find out the duration of the factory warranty.

The lad selling tells me he’s spoken to his supplying dealer who state because it has only done 400 and not exceeded the 600 “safety check/service” mileage his warranty is still valid and that it’s not unusual for bikes to come in over a year old but under miles.

Obviously I’m going to do my own checks with his dealer but wondered if anyone has any experience of this and whether there is a time limit on having some sort of service done to honour warranty conditions

Also what can I get from the dealer to ensure the remaining warranty is honoured wherever I take it in future

It's a 2 year warrantie not 3.

I don't trust the local dealer as far as I can throw them, so mine has never been back to them.
It's 6 weeks or 600 miles, whichever is first.

In your position, I would speak to Yamaha directly.
Contact details are on the website.

That's mine. smile

There is quite a lot of choice about so I would make sure saving a now doesnt dent your prospects of re-sale in the future because of the history.

I did manage to get a huge reduction on RRP from a dealer a few months ago when I had mine - I am not sure what you are offering for the bike but you should be able to haggle a bike down to close to £7000-£7500 from the dealer for a new one.

What are realistic used prices? £5500-£6000?

It’s an Abarth I’m wanting so not that much about. If it is only 2 yrs warranty I’m not as bothered, but some dealers/owners tell me it’s 3yrs. I’m goung to speak to yam uk
