I removed the dash of my 94 Griffith 500 this afternoon to replace the Veneer, just before I came in I had a quick feel around for the mounting bolts that attach the heater panel ( the Bible says that you can gain access through the dash hole when it’s removed ) but I could not feel anything. If it’s not possible I guess I will just have to lift the tunnel consul.

Sorry I was meaning the heater control panel that sits in front of the gear lever.

On my '97 car the fixing nuts are next to the backs of the window lift switches. Once you remove the switches (easier said than done) you will just see them.

Just done mine, I had to remove the big T center piece. To do this I had to release the handbrake cable to get the leaver vertical.

Take care though because on reassembly I couldn't get the leaver to go down again, as the linkage jammed under the leaver, so then had to take the exhaust off to free that up.

Not a problem just all took time and one the T was off could get in and give everything a good clean.

Cheers,

Simon.

Yes as you say ‘easier said than done’ I have tried to remove the switches but I gave up before I broke them.!!

I think I will treat the dash and heater panel as 2 different job, The dash is ready to go back in but when I checked the light switch with my meter I found that when the button is latched only 2 wires are live at a time ( this would account why the front side lights do not come on but the rear do)??

You can do it as a separate job, you'll need some access, but by removing the radio and the heater vents I could then get at all the stuff needed with the dash still in.

One of my problems was the ribbon connector from the heater panel to the controller box had worked loose giving me intermittent issues.

I’ve ordered new latching switches for the dash so that jobs now on hold. I decided to take the bull by the horns and remove the Tee section so I could unbolt the heater panel, it was all straight forward with no dramas!! I’m glad I did as I discovered an old mouses nest just in front of the gear lever, luckily there is no wiring damage!!, under the Tee section I found a tube of Body Shop sun screen, a new Black button cover for one of the dash buttons and a new Black strip that goes over the dash warning lights. This I will use as my one is a bit scratched from being cleaned.
I guess that these items have probably been there since the factory!!

Any guides as to how to remove the Tee section?

It was fairly straight forward....I jacked up the back of the car, and put in a couple of axle stands under the chassis. You need to slacken off the handbrake adjuster a surprising amount to allow the handbrake to lift up almost vertical (to allow the Tee section to lift up)
Behind both seats you will find a bracket that’s attached to the Tee section......pull back the carpet a little and you will find a fixing screw that needs to be removed from each bracket. Next I removed the slip on rubber handle from the handbrake. The gear knob is in 2 parts with the bottom part being locked onto the ball, I put a rag round the lower part and used a vice grip to loosen it while holding the ball. I found it quite difficult to pull the Tee section rearwards whilst lifting it at the same time as it seemed to be stuck to the dash. I ended up using a piece of wood to lever the dash up a little while shaking the Tee, once it came loose it came easily. I found that when I lifted the Tee up it came up against the rear hood section stays so I unbolted them from the roof section, with them removed I was able to stand it up vertical with the door handle release cables still attached.
Hope this helps.
Dave.

Thanks Dave, will give it a try sometime soon and will mention the outcome here.

Only TVR could design a car where you have to remove a rear wheel to access part of the dashboard!

I just thought I’d share a photo of my dash and heater control panel, I used a Formica type laminate, it’s a bit lighter in colour than the original Veneer but there should be no cracking issues in the future.
I was also able to resolve why my front side lights would not work....turned out to be a bad connection at the spade connector for the near side headlight.

Slacken the adjuster just far enough so you can twist the cable end off of the caliper (just one side) then the lever will be free to lift as high as you like.

I thought that you had to cut a slot in the calliper to loosen the cable.
