Hi All... has anybody owned or been to seen RX09MYL?

Advertised in the classifieds, located in Chepstow. Bit of a trek for me so keen to avoid a wasted journey if it's a wrong 'un!

Not sure if it might upset the mods: https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...

Oh OK, wasn't aware it was possibly against the rules to post a link.

Not aware of it myself - cosmetically the front bumper appears to have suffered the usual stone chips etc. as they all do but a £500 respray. Nice carbon interior too which seems to attract buyers. Low number of owners for it's age as well and the mileage implies it's been well driven which R8's need to be.

A good grilling over the phone should help decide if you want to view it?

I don't know the car but there aren't too many V10's around for that money. If you are purchasing it as a weekend car, then the mileage should go through the roof. Overall. looks a nice example.

Cosmetically it won't be "as new" at that mileage but that's stating the obvious. I'm assuming you want to drive thing thing rather than detail it and wrap it in cotton wool (and for that I say fair play).

Stuff you'll want to know:
Suspension - tired bushes, leaking dampers. Dampers are £££ and commonly fail.
Oil leaks - R8s like marking their territory
Discs - V10s will eat them when driven hard, and they're expensive
Tyres - the Pirellis on those dry out and crack in no time at all
Crap repairs - check panel alignment closely
Corrosion - lift bonnet, look underneath - are there bubbles in the paint? Audi replace the bonnets but not if they've been repaired/painted already.
A/C - does it work? does it stay working? Duff compressor = engine out.
Clutch - fundamentally good but they do get driven hard and it's deliberately the weak link in the drive line. Expensive to renew (labour intensive).
Exhaust rattle - R8 exhaust heat shields often break/rust and fall off causing an irritating vibration.

Edit: ...and why hasn't it been driven in 5 months? Entirely likely it's been on sale a while. A lot of R8 buyers/owners are petrified of putting miles on them.

Awesome Dr G, thank you. Nothing I hadn't read before apart from the bonnet, but good to have it all in one place smile

It has been up for ages (more than 5 months I think. As have a lot of R8's). I'm a slow mover when it comes to changing cars and it's been around since I started looking I think.

Going for a look this morning so will report back.

And yes, it will be a daily driver (although I don't actually drive anywhere on a daily basis!), but it is likely to live outside and be used in all weathers.

Looks like it’s lava gray, same as mine. Color goes from gray to charcoal depending on light/ cleanliness. In fact looks identical spec to mine.

Definitely worth getting a pre purchase inspection. They are generally reliable cars but some bills can be big and at that mileage the dampers and clutch could be due. I daily drive mine, great car for it as very easy to live with but you know the intent is always there.

Looks ok on the surface, being a manual would be a massive plus for me as the R-Tronic is the worst of both worlds, not a manual, but not an auto.

Can't add much to what others have said, had my V10 for 3 years and it hasn't even coughed.

I would highly recommend applying a clear wrap to any resprayed sections, they pick up chips real easy.

My only gripe is the buffeting helicopter noise you get driving with the window down, which is often, oh and the very dated MMI.

A/C replacement doesn't require an engine removal on a V10, only a V8. I've seen some people do it on a V8 without removing the engine but it seems such a tricky process, the negligible time saving means you might as well do it the official way!

Mag ride - definitely known to leak, £1k OEM per corner or refurbished units can be bought from Poland for around 1/2 that cost. Assuming they have stock, you can pay a deposit, have the refurbished units sent to you, swap them out then send your old ones back for the deposit return. Speeds things up a little.

Looks to be a clean example and at a good price if you don't mind a few miles.
The poor grammar and spelling in the advert is a bit off putting, but that just maybe me.
