I'm probably quite well placed to answer...

I picked up a ~1yr old V10 RS6 right at the end of their production (or shortly after it) so probably back in 2012 (its a 2011 car).

I've put 100k+ miles on it (just short of 130k on the clock at the moment) and although I've considered changing it a few times, I've never quite got around to it... though this year might be the year!

I've had to replace tyres several times (obviously!) as well as pads / discs, and the gas boot struts have been done once (and need doing again). It needed the turbo pipes tightened (engine warning light was coming on with an underboost message) but its otherwise only needed routine servicing.

My mileage has slowed down more recently, but for a few years in the middle I was a regular at the local Audi dealership - but they've always looked after me well, and the ownership experience has been fantastic.

Previously I've had other cars in the Audi range (2001 TT Roadster, 2004 S4 Avant, 2008/2009 R8 V8) but I've never kept anything as long as the RS6.

Ok, so it doesn't feel quite as sharp as the more recent model (or the RS4), and the tech is starting to feel a little dated (versus driving the OH's 2016 TTS with Virtual Cockpit, Bluetooth streaming, etc.) but it is a hell of a lot of car and is still both enjoyable AND relaxing to drive.

Happy to answer any specific questions - or if you fancy something with some mileage to it, you're welcome to buy mine when I finally get around to a replacement (likely an RS4, C63/E63 Estate or similar).

Nothing quite beats an Uberwagon!

The R8 (I had one of the first 'few' in the UK) definitely had more glamour and was an amazing car, but the RS6 is quicker and (debadged) very 'Q' indeed...

Thanks for that, exactly the sort of info i was after.

I must admit that its a bit of a toss up between a similar age Avant RS4 or the v10 RS6, but the passenger legroom and smaller bootspace concerns me in the RS4 so I'm focusing on the RS6.

Thank you for he offer, but from what youv'e said, if i look for something with a few less miles on it, i should be good to go.

I think driving the 2 back to back would be an interesting chance to compare.

Rear passenger legroom in the RS6 is 'OK' (I'm 6'4" with the seat at the far end of the runners, and someone can still sit behind me though not recommended for someone large for a long period!) so I'm guessing the RS4 is definitely worse in that respect.

Boot size is good in the RS6, but the floor is quite high so its never quite as big as you think it would be. Again, the RS4 must be smaller!

Definitely check boot struts, and feel when driving for 'aged' suspension.

Watch out for service costs, Discs and pads are fecking expensive, our colleague above should be able to give and accurate price, but £2.5k in parts is what I understand?

I was also under the impression the DRC suspension is prone to failure?

Does the RS6 coke up like the S6 engine?

Closer to half that if you hunt around. I bought a complete set of discs, pads and sensors for my C7 RS6 from Audi Crewe for around £1500 and they are bigger than C6.
Though dealers might charge over £2k to inc labour and everything.

I've just stepped into the RS6 v10 ownership from my e46 M3. I've had all sorts of cars before, and was actually looking for ages to replace the M3 with a B7 RS4. I then went and took one out for a test drive (I've driven some others before too) and after driving the M3 for about a year I wasn't as impressed with the rs4 as I remembered. I also have young kids and the space in the back was no better than the M3, which was really the only reason I was looking to change. Anyway, it had more grunt low down but didn't feel any quicker. I then went to look at an RS6 that the dealer knew of for sale, and it was so much bigger inside than the RS4 so straight away ticked the box more. I then went out in it, and although it felt a lot heavier and larger t be in than the 4, it had SO much more grunt! This car had a MRC stg2 tune so was 730bhp and 1040Nm! So no wonder it had some go.

Amyway, I was taken out in it and blown away, one of the fastest cars I've been in, and yet also so comfy to ride in when driving slowly too. After thinking its too silly for me, a week later I did a deal and bought it!

Things to look out for are coolant pipes leaking as they corrode from being exposed in the drivers wheel well, and an oil leak from a pump at the rear of the engine. To replace both properly is an engine out job, so about £1500.

Mine wasn't showing any signs of leaking but also no history to it being done. Apart from these two faults I've not heard of anything else other than the high running costs. Mine is averaging about 12mpg! But lots of that is commuting in traffic. My first tank returned an average of 9.6mpg which really had me concerned! But most of that driving was taking people out in it, it being sat idling on the drive whilst I worked out all the MMI functions and DVD rear screens for the kids, or sat in a weeks of traffic commuting. I'm hoping this improves!!! I did drive to Oxford the other day on the A34 which returned 23mpg, so no worse on a run than my old B6 S4, but a so much better car!

FYI mine was £18k, full Audi s/h, done 104k miles, monza silver with an ok spec (no ACC or sunroof but most other options, the soft close doors are nice, as is the TV option) I need the rear pads doing which I've already bought, new rear boot lightsas they've been damaged by the sun, and floor mats. Its being serviced next month.
