As the thread title really, a broken knee means I currently can only bend my leg up to about 80 degrees, now I can't even get my foot on my peg of my dad's '92 zephyr, let alone get anywhere close to a sports bike riding position!

So I think a feet out in front cruiser is what I need for a year or so till I'm mended. I quite like the look of the HD Sportsters, but even an 883 in the style I like (low front end, matt black and minimal chrome) start at about the five grand mark and I've only got half of that.

What cheaper bikes in a similar style should I be looking out for? Having only ever been interested in sports bikes this is like a whole new division of motorcycling I have no experience in!

Below is the sort of thing I quite like the look of, not into lots of chrome and silly high handlebars!

Oh and it needs to have or be able to have fitted a pillion seat of some kind!

You don’t need a cruiser, you need physio!

I broke my leg really badly years ago and was similar, took me the best part of a year to be able to do a full rotation of the peddles on an excercise bike and was told I’d never have full flex in my left knee.

Now I reckon I could ride a mini moto thumbup

Just get your knee fixed. Going to cause you bigger problems than riding a cruiser!

After a biiig crash that nearly wiped me out 10 years ago i ended up on a feet forward Harley, still got it now because I really enjoy it for touring on.

Get a "cheap" V-Rod, its the fastest Harley ever made and you wont lose money on it. £5k upwards

I appreciate the replies trying to keep me in the sports bike fold, but have no fear, I'm not going to the dark side permanently! I just want something I can ride in comfort for the 6-12 months it'll take to heal my knee up, then it'll be getting sold to fund a ZX10r or K5 GSXR 1000!

Keep the suggestions coming, anything available for £3k or less will be considered.

If you really like the HD you'll find their PCP options remarkably cheap due to high residuals.

But if you're doing it for a year, just get yourself an intruder 700?

Honda Supermagna? I'm fairly certain they have 80 something horsepower. I can't think of a quicker cruiser

I bought a cruiser at 60 when I sold the ZXR, 900 Vulcan great bike will cruise all day at 90 MPH, only issue had with a cruiser is the single front brake, mine had a fat boy front end fitted.
If you want Duel brake have a look at the Vulcan 1500, a bit older but they are nice, and not as heavy as the newer 1.6, 1.7, the 800 is not worth buying you can get a newer 9 for the same sort of money, the 650 Vulcan is no where near the class of the 900, I've borrowed a couple.

Older but nice is the Vulcan 750, front fork geometry is more like a sport bike, I kept one for years, (sold last year) as a second bike, just because I liked it.

I honestly found the mt10 a perfect riding position comfort wise, my knees are both knackered with snapped acls and no hardly any cartilage left, it was far more comfortable than my africa twin

The Sportster 883 has 'mid controls' so you'll need to factor in changing them for forward controls, if that's the position you want. It's also 'only' an 883 and doesnt really have any poke to speak of. You can do a 1200cc upgrade to it, but costs ££.

The Sportster Forty Eight has forward controls as standard, and a 1200cc engine as standard. So you might want to take a look at the Forty Eights instead of the 883's.

Ended up in a HD dealer yesterday and couldn't believe how cheap they were on finance. Even when compared to other brands with supposedly high residuals they were nearly half the price.

yes Ideally you need 110 degrees of flexion for it not to be a problem. If you've not been doing your exercises get bloomin doing them pronto!

You need a mountain bike not a cruiser.

I royally fecked up my knee many years ago, lots of physio couldn't get the 100 deg I needed to rider my FZR1000, I was stuck at 75/80 deg for ages.

I bought one of the then new mountain bike, low gearing means you can go through the motions - soon able to ride the Genesis.

Otherwise cheap+performance+cruiser = V-Max.

I only broke it 5 weeks ago (coming off a mountain bike actually) along with a partially torn ACL and a couple other ligaments, plus lots of cartilage damage. I haven't even been given any physio excercise yet I'm just after something to ride in the meantime as it's not going to be a quick recovery!

Had a look at a few of your suggestions, just new things to search for on eBay is a great help. Undecided whether I want to go for an older HD which will hold its value, or a newer modern Japanese bike which will technically be a better machine but stands to suffer some depreciation in the 12 months I'm likely to own it.

Find myself inexplicably drawn to the new Vulcan 650 S somehow, though I know it won't meet the 'poke' requirement but in Matt black it looks exactly what I want, and they're pretty cheap for a bike that's only a few years old.

Cancel my last... having watched some Youtube sound clips I've come to the realisation that no matter what it looks like, if it's got a parallel twin it just isn't going to sound right and I'll probably be sick in my mouth a little bit whenever I have to open the throttle vomit

An Intruder M800 doesn't look a bad bet to me right now though, right engine and there are cheapish ones out there!

Took me a good 8 months to be able to ride again after i smashed my kneecap to bits, tried after 4 months but got a couple miles up road and was in so much pain i could hardly get leg down whn i stopped. Physio is the thing, and plenty of it!. Had a cbr600rr, a 600 fazer and an old xr250r and by far the most comfortable to use with a knackered leg was the old xr, much taller and less bent leg.

Get a teatray, put your foot on it and slide it back and forwards towards your bum. I've been stuck with circa 100 degrees for over thirty years, once you're stuck you're stuck!
