I have put my VIN number into the BMW update site and it has generated a software update file for me to use.

The file is called UPD07032.bin

I have saved it to a newly FAT32 formated USB stick, but the sotfware update complains of incompatible USB file. The USB stick is empty apart from this file - no folders or partitions. It is only a 1GB size but plenty big enough for the update file. I've put the stick into the armrest USB port, I don't have one in the glovebox unless it's hidden away.

My current versions are:
Media: MV-010.006.019
Phone: TV-010.006.019

Any ideas anyone ?

I’ve had such a message in the past and used a different USB stick in the end. No idea why that worked.

But I thought all F series cars had the glovebox USB (tucked away to the right I think) and that was the only one which worked for updates.

I was under the impression that updates were done using the USB socket in the glovebox (right-hand side tucked away in the bottom corner).

Thanks, I'll check the glovebox again, I was looking from the drivers side so maybe I missed it. I've tried 2 separate USB sticks so far, all USB 2.0 and small sizes so nothing complicated or new-fangled. I'll keep hunting in the glovebox..

The armrest USB socket worked for me. SanDisk USB stick worked OK, did mine last week.

No glovebox USB port on newer cars - that was only on cars with CIC iDrive.

Indeed. I can’t see one on my ‘66 plate F30.

In that case the only thing I can think may be the issue is that there's a hidden partition on the USB stick that the car is looking at rather than the one with the update in it. If there is one you'll see it when you use Disk Management on Windows.
