Porsche has unveiled the new 935 on the occasion of the historic “Rennsport Reunion” motorsport event at Laguna Seca Raceway in California. The 515 kW (700 hp) racer featuring a body reminiscent of the legendary Porsche 935/78 will be produced in a limited number of 77 units.

“This spectacular car is a birthday present from Porsche Motorsport to fans all over the world,” says Dr Frank-Steffen Walliser, Vice President Motorsport and GT Cars. “Because the car isn’t homologated, engineers and designers didn’t have to follow the usual rules and thus had freedom in the development.”

Looks great, but I am correct in thinking that's just a 991.2 GT2RS in a retro dress and shoes.

Kind of like how a Space wagon is really a Shogun in a square suit.

A birthday present for all the fans around the world, what all 77 of them !

Just think of the overs on that :-)

Nice project for the Motorsport team , Has been rumors a long time, many thought is was an RSR, so like the new GT4 engine, no leaks from Porsche these days.

Wonder who will get one of the UK slots.

Nah the trailer is for keeping the mileage down, in Knightsbridge i’d just drive it to go shopping (just stick a foreign number plate on it ....)

Slick tyres. The same rear tyres used across most of the motorsport range, Cup/R/RSR.

Mental, Bravo Porsche.
This is why they are my favourite car manufacturer.

Inspiration for another generation.

I hope I get to see one in the metal some day.

And finally, Porsche joins in the game of taking an existing platform and putting a different body on it, in this case a very ugly one, more than doubling the price, and instantly scoring a winner! Well done to them. Personally, I think they’ve left a ton of money on the table. They should do a Ferrari and build 500 of these at 2M Euros a pop. They are enough mugs out there to take them all.

I was at a workshop today where a 928 was having some work done, a beautiful, sleek bodied Porsche with a V8, albeit an aged car.
And then they make this monstrously ill proportioned thing.
Still, as I said, it’s mother will love it...

I don't get it. I just don't. I want to, because in ways it's the coolest thing ever. It's just that in every other way it's an atrocity.

There is no race series for it, so it's not a race car. The body is seemingly designed to look like something, not perform - so it's not a race car. It's not homologated to GT3 regs, so there are very few places you could race it. If you did, you'd probably get beaten by a proper race car.

So it's a big bit of automotive art. But you can't pose with it, because it's not road legal. You can't pose with it very effectively on a test day, because the other people there will be in proper race cars and will smile and be polite but inside they'll be theinking you're just playing with a toy.

So what is the point? 750k very easily will by you an LMP3 that you can race in a few series. Hell, it'll buy you an LMP2 if you want (link)
A Porsche fan? How about A 2018 GT3 cup? Plenty spare budget to fund a season. Prefer the look of the car in the press release? How about a well known "935" that would still be competitive in some really interesting series? OK it's not an ex factory LM 935 (arguably it's a 911E) but it's more authentic than this one!

TL;DR? As a road car I'd lust after it. As a race car I'm just utterly baffled by it's existence!

I get it.

It's not a car. It's an investment opportunity.

I don't know. That sector of the market is pretty popular these days and this is basically Porsche's answer to the FXXK/P1 GTRs etc. Those cars actually are driven as well,. admittedly perhaps not all but a decent number of them definitely are.
