What's wrong with this 944?

Teledial wheels but the offset looks very wrong.
Perhaps it's sat on a Beetle floorpan?

It's an '83 so would be on Fuchs alloys originally, I guess the teledials are the wrong offset. Might be narrow front wheels on the back, perhaps. Looks weird anyway, I couldn't stand it looking like that

I think the bumper is euro spec, but the square numberplate makes it look odd.

Its a competitive market for 944, you'd want to make sure the car you're selling looks as good as posible

It isn't a 924 with 944 panels?

The 944 had some fairly large spacers as standard on the rear wheels.

I don't remember if there were spacers on the front as well, but I seem to think there were.

I owned an '84 model back in the late 90's with the original black Fuchs wheels.

The MOT history for the one on the OP makes for interesting reading.

I suspect it's hiding a lot of rust.

As far as I know, both the 924 and 944 have the same track widths - apart from the engines* the mechanical running gear is the same.

As I said above, the 944 was given spacers as standard to fill out the arches.

Perhaps they neglected to fit the spacers or are 924 wheels a massively different offset?

I had a look at my own 944 which is a 1988 model on teledials and I couldn't see any spacers behind the wheels. Are they a part of the hub or a separate part?

I think they are 928 front alloys, all round.

An '83 924 would have 4 stud wheels like this



A 924S would have 5 stud Teledials



But the shabby ebay car does look like a 944 as it has the extra dial in the revcounter (mpg indicator??) which the 924 didn't.

Early cars had a low offset wheel ~ ET 23 - usually cookie cutters or Fuchs
Later cars had ABS and higher offset ~ ET 52 - usually teledials (on a 2.5 8v)

These are late offset wheels on an early car.

There is a spacer on the rear axle AFAIK - may also be missing here as those rear wheels look very very wrong.

Easily fixed though

Possibly hiding more than that, NSF wing doesn't seem to sit properly at the front and the OSF headlamp looks to be sitting proud as well, but it could just be my imagination lol.

Square dash 944 should be on Cookie Cutters or Fuchs. 5-stud on 944, 4-stud on 924. Rears should have spacers (about 1/2" from memory, maybe more). Is this one on stupidly low profile tyres ?

If OP is thinking of buying it, try to get the seller to send you a photo of the options sticker (would be in the original handbook if still with the car, and on the boot rear panel unless accident damaged and replaced).

Thought the same myself - The rear axle looks to be too far forwards!

(Added to wheels/tyres that look to be 2/3rds the size they should be - Weird!)
