Received this e-mail. Any ideas?

Dear mister,

Unfortinately we must inform You that in Microsoft program equipment,
Microsoft Internet Explorer v 6 our experts of security and developement
department have found a new critical vulnerabilty. It allows hackers to
exploit your system, upload virus or trojan through the Internet, in general
known as bad-source program, set up it and steal some information, which can
be valueble.

To prevent a such situation, we strongly recommend you to update you
Microsoft Internet Explorer v 6. Please download our patch. It may save
you from fraud and make you and us sure that hackers wouldn't exploit you
Microsoft Windows.

We are sorry for inconvenience a hope you understand that there is a real

I hear bells ringing!!!!
From the poor grammar, bad spelling and general phrasing, I would guess this an attempt to get you to download some suspect programme/advertising/porn etc. Leave it alone.

Never ever download windows or internet explorer patches from anywhere but the windows update web site. Microsoft don't send security notices by email. I suspect in this case somebody is trying to fool you into downloading a trojan.

That's what I thought and haven't opened the attachement and deleted the e-mail.

I actually meant to post in P+P.

Total scam. You did the right thing.

Not even from the right person in MS ... which I would have thought was easy enough to find out.

Edited to add that dealing with this sort of thing is a rather tiresome feature of my job, consequently I can get a bit tedious about it. Dan.
